The Kansas City Chiefs have been arguably the best team in the NFL since Patrick Mahomes took over as the starting quarterback. Last year the Chiefs had a 14-3 record and were the No. 1 see in the AFC playoffs.

Kansas City started the year with back-to-back wins before a surprising loss to the Indianapolis Colts in Week 3. The team would only lose two more games the rest of the year.

However, the Chiefs represented the AFC in Super Bowl 57, winning 38-35 over the Philadelphia Eagles. After winning the title, the Chiefs will have the 31st overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

What Are The Kansas City Chiefs Biggest Needs On Offense?

Kansas City had a different-looking squad last year than in 2021. The Chiefs traded away Tyreek Hill in the offseason, replacing him with JuJu Smith-Schuster and Marquez Valdes-Scantling in free agency. They also used a second-round pick on Skyy Moore and acquired Kadarius Toney at the trade deadline.

However, JuJu Smith-Schuster signed with the New England Patriots in free agency, leaving the Chiefs with a hole at wide receiver. While Travis Kelce is arguably the best pass catcher in the NFL, Kansas City needs to add a wide receiver during the 2023 NFL Draft.

One potential target is Zay Flowers. The former Boston College star had 78 receptions for 1,077 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns last year, leading the ACC in receiving touchdowns. Furthermore, his route running is already on par with NFL-level players.

What Are The Kansas City Chiefs Biggest Needs On Defense?

While the offense gets most of the national attention, the Chiefs have an impressive defense. Last year they hit the lottery in the secondary, as multiple rookies played a critical role in the team’s Super Bowl victory.

However, Kansas City could use some help at linebacker. Willie Gay had a breakout year in 2022. The former Mississippi State star had 88 total tackles, nine tackles for a loss, and 2.5 sacks last year, all career highs. Unfortunately, he is a free agent after the 2023 season and likely won’t return in 2024.

One potential replacement option is DeMarvion Overshown. The former Texas Longhorn was a force in college, totaling 249 tackles and nine sacks in his career.
