How Did Jonathan Taylor Perform in Fantasy Football This Season?

Following a breakout 2021 season that included 1,811 rushing yards and 18 rushing TDs, Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor entered 2022 as the consensus No. 1 overall pick in fantasy drafts.

Taylor looked every bit the part in the '22 season opener, rushing for 161 yards and a TD on 31 carries against the Houston Texans. However, that first outing of the year proved to be his best, as he wouldn't top the century mark again until Week 10.

Lots of things went wrong for the third-year back this season, as the Colts' season quickly went down the drain and resulted in the mid-season firing of Frank Reich. The acquisition of aging QB Matt Ryan during the offseason proved to be a disaster that offered Taylor little support, as the Indy offensive line performed below expectation throughout the season.

A notorious iron man, Taylor battled injuries for the first time in his career. The 24-year-old was sidelined for six games in 2022 and played at less than 100% in multiple others, which resulted in a noticeable dip in his explosiveness and overall production.

His final 2022 stats paled in comparison to his sterling 2021 totals, as he rushed for nearly 1,000 fewer yards and found the paint 16 fewer times than he did last season.

Jonathan Taylor's 2022 Fantasy Football Grade: D+

Sure, you can make the argument that Taylor deserves an "Incomplete" here due to his injury issues, but at the end of the day, Taylor suited up in 11 games before ending the year on Injured Reserve for a Colts squad that had nothing to play for down the stretch.

Interim Indy head coach Jeff Saturday's recommitment to the run game after he took the helm in Week 10 did salvage Taylor's fantasy season to an extent, as the Wisconsin product averaged 99.75 rushing yards with three TDs in the final four games he was active this year.

Taylor's 2023 fantasy draft stock will undoubtedly tumble in relation to his 2022 ADP. That said, the star Colts back will be primed for a bounce-back campaign next year and remains one of the most talented dual-threat RBs in the game.
