Week 5 Wide Receiver (WR) Rankings Analysis

By Zach Wilkens (@LopsidedTrades)

Aside from the obvious superstar players, I’m expecting a fantastic day from Julian Edelman this week and I have him in my top 10 - even in standard. Through three games, Edelman is on pace for 160 catches - and somehow that pace could increase after the matchup against the Cowboys.

I’m not really worried about Antonio Brown without Ben Roethlisberger, but I am “low” on him at WR9. Last week’s game was a big disappointment, and believe it or not the Chargers are currently giving up the fewest points to WRs. Most likely Brown bounces back, this week but there is a small concern here.

Another week means yet another week that I am high on Kendall Wright. People are coming around, but I still have him five spots ahead of his consensus at WR18. Fellow small-sized possession receivers Edelman and Jarvis Landry both fared well against the Bills, with at least eight catches each and two scores for Edelman. Look for that to continue with Wright. He saw 12 targets in his Week 3 game before the bye.

Mike Evans and Allen Robinson face each other this week, and I am expecting big days from both. I have them at WR13 and WR14. Both are coming off weeks against top corners. Evans faced Josh Norman, the top rated PFF corner this season, while Robinson faced Vontae Davis. Needless to say, neither of these teams has anyone close to that talent level. I will be extremely surprised if either is quiet here.

As a result of liking Robinson so much, I am low on his teammate Allen Hurns. Outside of last week’s 14 targets, while Robinson was completely shut down, Hurns has only averaged five targets a game. He just isn’t nearly as big a part of the offense when Blake Bortles can get the ball to ARob. I have Hurns at WR32.

With Steve Smithout this week, Kamar Aiken steps into the WR1 role for the Ravens. My ranking of him comes down to one big question: Will Joe Haden be active? Haden hasn’t been a shutdown corner by any means this season, but I am pretty confident if he plays he can shut down Aiken. Haden missed last week with a broken finger and is questionable here. If he sits, Aiken is a nice flex play.

Lastly it looks like you’ll have to hold off on Martavis Bryant for one more week. News broke Friday that he hasn’t been at practice all week and it is unlikely the Steelers activate him. With it being a Monday night game the smart play is to avoid him entirely.
