1 week agoDarren Elkins picked up a unanimous decision win over Daniel Pineda on the main card of UFC Vegas 99. After three rounds of back-and-forth action, Elkins and Pineda were awarded "Fight of the Night" honors. All three judges scored the contest 29-28. In 15 minutes of action, Elkins landed three takedowns and 39 significant strikes. This is Elkins' first winning streak in over three years, 12 months after his second-round finish over TJ Brown. 2 weeks agoDaniel Pineda announced his retirement from MMA following his decision loss to Darren Elkins at UFC Vegas 99. Pineda entered the bout as a slight favorite despite being on a two-fight losing streak. The first round was competitive, but Pineda was outstruck 39-to-17 in the second round and 40-to-17 in the third round to lose a clear-cut decision. 2 weeks agoCameron Smotherman beat Jake Hadley by decision on the main card of UFC Vegas 99. Smotherman took the fight on just a few days' notice and was a massive underdog. Yet, in the first round, he fought well as he outstruck the Brit 37-to-24. He was outstruck in the second round and was taken down, but he outstruck Hadley again in the third as his striking looked good to win a clear-cut decision. Hadley was the biggest favorite on the card as Smotherman took the fight on less than 5 days' notice. However, the Brit struggled on the feet as he was outstruck badly in the first and third rounds to lose a clear-cut decision. With the loss, Hadley is now 11-4 as a pro and is 3-4 in the UFC. 2 weeks agoKyler Phillips suffered a decision loss to Rob Font in the co-main event of UFC Vegas 99. Phillips entered the bout as a massive favorite and in the first round, he was able to wrestle Font and controlled him for over three-and-a-half minutes. However, Phillips started to slow down due to the pressure he used in the opening round as he was outstruck in the second and third rounds to lose a decision. With the loss, Phillips is now 12-3 as a pro and 6-2 in the UFC. Phillips will likely have to fight an unranked opponent next time out.Source: UFC
2 weeks agoRob Font picked up a decision win over Kyler Phillips in the co-main event of UFC Vegas 99 on Saturday. Font entered the bout as a sizeable underdog and early on, the American struggled. He was taken down and controlled for 3:34 of the first round and it looked to be a long night. But, Font was able to keep the fight standing and he used his jab and pressure to wear on Phillips. He ended up outstriking Font in both the second and third rounds to get the decision win. With the victory, Font improved to 21-8 as a pro and is 11-7 in the UFC.
