1 month agoWashington Capitals right winger T.J. Oshie (upper body) could return to the lineup on Tuesday for the team's crucial matchup with the Detroit Red Wings. The veteran has missed the past four games due to an upper-body injury and said he felt good after practicing on Monday. "In my situation we're going to kind of go day to day, but hopeful that I feel good tomorrow morning," Oshie said. The oft-injured winger is having a down offensive season that has included several injuries, as he has tallied 11 goals and 22 points with 83 shots on goal across just 47 games. The Capitals enter Tuesday's contest sitting just one point back of the Red Wings for the final wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference, although they are one of three teams with 83 points on the season.--Brenton Kemp - RotoBallerSource: NHL.com

1 month agoVancouver Canucks goaltender Arturs Silovs was the first goaltender off the ice in the team's morning skate on Monday, suggesting he will be the starter for this evening's game against the visiting Vegas Golden Knights. Silovs and Casey DeSmith have been alternating starts of late with Thatcher Demko sidelined but Silovs has been the superior of the two as DeSmith has taken a 6-3 loss in each of his last two outings while Silovs has allowed just three goals while winning each of his last two. He has posted a 1.50 goals-against average and a tidy .930 save percentage in his two NHL games this season after working to a 2.74 GAA and a .907 save percentage in 33 outings with AHL Abbotsford.--Brenton Kemp - RotoBallerSource: Thomas Drance
Share:
1 month agoDetroit Red Wings goaltender Ville Husso (lower body) has been loaded to the American Hockey League's Grand Rapids Griffins for a conditioning stint. The 29-year-old has been limited to just 19 games with the Red Wings this season due to lower-body injuries. He suffered an original lower-body injury in a Dec. 18 contest against the Ducks, forcing him out until Feb. 13. However, he left that game against the Oilers after just 8:48 due to an aggravation of the ailment and hasn't appeared in a game since. The former St. Louis Blues netminder struggled to a 3.55 goals-against average and an .892 save percentage in the NHL this season while Alex Lyon has taken over the crease in Husso's absence.--Brenton Kemp - RotoBallerSource: Detroit Red Wings
Share:
1 month agoVancouver Canucks center Elias Lindholm (undisclosed) took part in his team's morning skate before the club takes on the visiting Vegas Golden Knights on Monday night. The veteran pivot hasn't appeared in a game since March 23 due to an undisclosed injury. However, it doesn't appear Lindholm took part in line rushes, meaning he is likely doubtful to return on Monday night, although he has not been ruled out. Lindholm was acquired in a trade with the Calgary Flames a month ahead of the March 8 NHL trade deadline and has just five goals and nine points in 22 games with Vancouver. The Canucks sit first in the Pacific Division with a 47-22-8 record, three points ahead of the Edmonton Oilers, although the Oilers own a game in hand.--Brenton Kemp - RotoBallerSource: Ben Kuzma
Share:
1 month agoOttawa Senators center Tim Stutzle is listed as day-to-day with an upper-body injury after missing Sunday's 3-2 overtime win over the Washington Capitals. The German took a hit from Florida Panthers defenseman Niko Mikkola in a 6-0 loss on Thursday and was slow to get up. Stutzle has notched 18 goals and 70 points in 75 games on the season while adding 192 shots, 100 hits, 28 penalty minutes, and a minus-17 rating on the campaign in his 21:07 of average ice time per game. The Senators will once again miss the playoffs for the seventh straight season with a 34-39-4 record, good for 14th in the Eastern Conference standings.--Brenton Kemp - RotoBallerSource: NHL.com
Share:
1 month agoNew Jersey Devils forward Curtis Lazar could miss the remainder of the season due to an upper-body injury. The veteran was injured during the second period of a 4-3 win against the Ottawa Senators on Saturday. With the Devils set to miss the postseason, Lazar's 2023-24 campaign could be over altogether. "He's not great," interim head coach Travis Green said on Sunday. "I don't know if we'll see Lazar for the rest of the regular season." Lazar is enjoying his best offensive season of his 10-season NHL career with seven goals and a career-high 25 points across 71 games and 12:23 of average ice time per game.--Brenton Kemp - RotoBallerSource: NHL.com
Share:
1 month agoTampa Bay Lightning defenseman Mikhail Sergachev (leg) skated with the team in a non-contact jersey at practice on Monday. It was the first time the Russian has skated with his teammates after suffering a gruesome leg injury on Feb. 8 against the New York Rangers. Sergachev's leg got caught underneath him in an awkward fall, leaving him with fractures to his left tibia and fibula that required surgery. He will miss the remainder of the regular season, and his playoff availability is unclear at this time. The two-time Stanley Cup champion recorded two goals and 19 points across 34 games this season while averaging 22:33 of ice time per game.--Brenton Kemp - RotoBallerSource: NHL.com
Share:
1 month agoSt. Louis Blues center Robert Thomas had one of his most prolific outings of the season versus Anaheim on Sunday, completing a 6-5 shootout victory with a goal and three assists. Half of the points came in power-play situations, including Thomas' 24th goal of the season. The 24-year-old has also registered 57 assists across 78 appearances to become only the second 80-point scorer for the Blues over the last 20 years. Following a spell of five points in 15 games, Thomas has heated up again ahead of the final few games of the season, upping his points tally in three straight appearances with a goal and six assists.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBallerSource: ESPN
Share:
1 month agoNew York Rangers left wing Artemi Panarin put together his fourth four-point effort of the season in Sunday's 5-2 victory over Montreal. He began his work with a pair of power-play assists, potted the team's fourth goal, and completed his night at the office with an assist on Alexis Lafreniere's empty-netter. Panarin is now only one shy of matching the franchise record for most four-point games in a single season. He also has a chance to tie the Rangers record for most three-assist games in a campaign, with this having been his sixth such effort in 2023-24. There are four games left for Panarin to make history. He will enter the final stretch with 46 goals and 115 points on his account through 78 games.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBallerSource: ESPN
Share:
1 month agoCarolina Hurricanes goaltender Frederik Andersen posted his second shutout in three starts on Sunday as the team took down the Blue Jackets 3-0. Andersen stopped 23 pucks in the contest to improve to 12-2-0 for the season. He missed a large chunk of the campaign due to a blood-clotting issue, but Andersen has been outstanding when healthy. He's given up more than two goals only once in his last 13 appearances and boasts a 1.83 goals-against average for the season with three shutouts and a .931 save percentage. Carolina alternates its goalies, meaning we should see Andersen next on Friday in another favorable matchup against St. Louis.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBallerSource: ESPN
Share:
1 month agoWashington Capitals defenseman Rasmus Sandin is expected to miss "some time" after he was injured on Sunday versus Ottawa. The Swedish blue-liner suffered an upper-body injury on a hard hit from Senators forward Parker Kelly. Sandin was limited to 7:09 of ice time on Sunday. The 24-year-old went scoreless for a seventh consecutive game, but he's done a decent job helping out on offense in general, with 23 points (three goals, 20 assists) amassed across 68 games. Sandin also boasts 75 hits and 106 blocks. Washington has five more games left in the regular season.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBallerSource: Sammi Silber
Share:
1 month agoNew Jersey Devils goaltender Kaapo Kahkonen sustained a lower-body injury in Sunday's 3-2 shootout loss to Nashville. He gave up an early goal to Jack Hughes and left the game after logging only 8:39 of ice time. Jake Allen stopped 29 of 30 pucks as his replacement. Kahkonen is set to undergo additional evaluations on Monday, which will determine his availability for Tuesday's contest against Toronto. The Finnish netminder has had a rough one in 2023-24, going 7-23-3 in 32 starts with the Devils and Sharks. He has allowed 3.72 goals with a .897 save percentage.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBallerSource: ESPN
Share:
1 month agoColorado Avalanche winger Mikko Rantanen has landed in concussion protocol. He was injured on Friday versus Edmonton and sat out Sunday's 7-4 loss to Dallas. Colorado also played without Miles Wood (lower body) on Sunday. Zach Parise stepped up to fill a top-six role. The veteran, who's posted nine points (four goals, five assists) in 26 games for the Avalanche, will have extra fantasy value until Rantanen's return. The Finnish star skated Sunday morning, but it's unclear when he will be able to jump back into action.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBallerSource: ESPN
Share:
1 month agoNew York Islanders goaltender Semyon Varlamov posted his third shutout of the season with 41 saves in Saturday's 2-0 win over Nashville. The Russian veteran saw a lot of the puck but had a perfect game to improve to 11-6-4. Playing as Ilya Sorokin's backup, Varlamov has registered five wins across his last seven starts. His goals-against average for the season stands at 2.72, and Varlamov has posted a .916 save percentage. Sorokin has won each of his last two starts, so the Islanders goalies have heated up just at the right time. The team has climbed to third in the Metropolitan Division, with five games left to play.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBallerSource: ESPN
Share:
1 month agoSan Jose Sharks forward William Eklund scored all of his team's goals in Saturday's 3-2 overtime triumph over St. Louis. He registered a pair of power-play goals in the second period and finished the game in overtime with 1:02 left to play. At 21 years and 177 days old, Eklund became the fifth-youngest player in franchise history to score a hat trick. The rookie from Sweden is finishing the campaign strongly and has been kept off the score sheet just once in the past eight games. Eklund has totaled 15 goals and 25 assists in 74 games for the season.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBallerSource: ESPN
