Gastelum began his UFC career at welterweight but struggled to make weight so made a permanent move to middleweight. Gastelum is coming off a decision win over Chris Curtis in April which snapped his two-fight losing skid and was also his first fight in a year-and-a-half. Brady hasn't fought since October of 2022 when he lost by TKO to Belal Muhammad, and since then has been sidelined due to injuries. Morales was coming off a unanimous decision victory over Max Griffin. Morales dominated the bout with powerful strikes, forcing Matthews to try and counter Morales. The fight was intense and back-and-forth, but Morales landed enough hard shots to secure a unanimous decision victory. Throughout the fight, Morales' reach presented big problems for Matthews. 6 months agoNick Aguirre suffered a submission loss to Payton Talbott at UFC Fight Night 232 on Saturday. Aguirre entered the night having lost a unanimous decision by Dan Argueta earlier this year. Aguirre had some success in the first round as he managed to take Talbott down and hold him there. However, in the third round, Talbott delivered a devastating kick that hurt Aguirre. As a result, Aguirre shot for a takedown but got mounted by Talbott who quickly locked in the fight-ending rear-naked choke. 6 months agoEven though he wasn't thrilled with his overall performance, Payton Talbott earned the first submission win of his MMA career on Saturday. His opponent, Nick Aguirre, took Talbott down in the first round and held him down for an entire round. In the second round, Talbott turned the tables and controlled the position until the round ended. Then in the final round, Talbott hurt Aguirre with a kick, got mount position, and locked in a rear-naked choke. In 10:58 of action, Talbott landed 28 significant strikes. 6 months agoLuana Pinheiro had her nine-fight winning streak snapped on Saturday when she suffered a third-round TKO loss to Amanda Ribas. She came out swinging heavily in the opening round, a decision that would come back to haunt her in the second and third as she began to slow down. Pinheiro's fatigue meant her defense had broken down completely and she ate every strike thrown at her, including a spinning wheel kick. Ribas followed Pinheiro to the ground and delivered a series of ground-and-pound strikes that forced the referee to stop the fight. 6 months agoBrazilian fan favorite Amanda Ribas got back into the win column in impressive fashion at UFC Fight Night 232. She managed to survive two rounds of dominance by Luana Pinheiro and then capitalized on her opponent's lack of energy in the third round to score a TKO victory. Ribas landed a devastating spinning heel kick that left Pinheiro staggered before delivering the final blows. In 13:53 of action, Ribas landed 87 significant strikes, compared to Pinheiro who landed 55. Ribas once again displayed true veteran grit and will to win. Source: UFC
6 months agoUros Medic had his two-fight winning streak snapped in the main-card opener of UFC Vegas 82 when he suffered a second-round submission loss to UFC newcomer Myktybek Orolbai. Orolbai took the fight on less than a week's notice and grappled Medic early. Medic had a hard time dealing with the wrestling, as he allowed Orolbai to go 5-for-8 for takedowns in the first round and 2-for-2 in the second round. Ultimately, after being controlled with the grappling, Medic tapped out due to a neck crank. With the loss, Medic fell to 9-2 overall and 3-2 in the UFC, while also being 1-1 at welterweight after moving up to 170 pounds his last time out.Source: UFC
6 months agoMyktybek Orolbai scored a second-round submission win over Uros Medic at UFC Vegas 82 in a fight he took on less than a week's notice. Orolbai entered the scrap on a six-fight winning streak and had fought three weeks prior. Right out of the gate, Orolbai wanted to grapple earlier, as he went 5-for-8 on his takedowns and had 3:49 of control time in a solid first round. In the second round, the UFC debutant went back to his wrestling and went 2-for-2 and eventually got a submission win in the second round. 6 months agoJordan Leavitt suffered a first-round submission loss to Chase Hooper at UFC Vegas 82. Leavitt tried to engage with the grappling right away but went 0-for-2 on his takedown attempts. After Hooper stuffed one of his takedown attempts, the two ended up on the mat which began a plethora of scrambling, which saw both men end up on top at certain times. Once Leavitt was on top, he landed a big shot to Hooper that appeared to hurt him. However, Hooper was able to scramble to Leavitt's back and sunk in a choke and forced him to tap. With the loss, Leavitt is now 4-3 in the UFC and 11-3 overall.Source: UFC
6 months agoChase Hooper has his first win streak in the UFC as he scored a first-round submission win over Jordan Leavitt at UFC Vegas 82. Hooper entered the fight coming off a decision win over Nick Fiore back in May in his lightweight debut in the UFC. Right away, Hooper and Leavitt engaged in clinch work as both looked to get the fight to the ground. After Hooper stuffed a takedown, he got on top for a brief moment before Leavitt scrambled on top. However, Hooper eventually was able to scramble to Leavitt's back and sunk in a rear naked choke to get the tap. With the win, Hooper is now 5-3 in the UFC and 13-3-1 overall.Source: UFC
6 months agoPaul Craig suffered a third-round submission loss to Brendan Allen at UFC Vegas 82, which served as Craig's first main event. Craig was badly outstruck on the feet and also went 0-for-2 on takedowns, while he failed to defend any of Allen's takedown attempts, which led to the American having nearly eight minutes of control. After being dominated for two full rounds, Craig ended up getting submitted in the third round to drop to 9-7-1 in the UFC and 17-7-1 overall. He's also now 1-1 since dropping down to middleweight and will likely get an unranked opponent next time out.Source: UFC
