4 days agoNew England Patriots director of scouting Eliot Wolf said he doesn't think the team currently has a wide receiver that "can beat the backside coverage every single time." The Patriots are most likely to draft their quarterback of the future with the No. 3 overall pick, but they could pair him with a receiver with their next pick at No. 34 overall. ESPN's Field Yates believes South Carolina's Xavier Legette, Florida State's Keon Coleman or Florida's Ricky Pearsall could all be good fits. Legette caught 71 passes for 1,255 yards and seven touchdowns last year and "has some of the best run-after-catch skills in the class," according to Yates. Coleman's size (6-foot-3, 213 pounds) makes him a top red-zone performer. Pearsall caught 65 passes for 965 yards and four touchdowns in 2023.Source: ESPN.com - Field Yates
4 days agoNew England Patriots director of scouting Eliot Wolf said late last week that the team is "open for business" at pick No. 3 overall in the upcoming NFL draft and will listen to trade offers. However, Wolf and first-year head coach Jerod Mayo have previously said the only way they're moving further down in the first round is if another team offers an unprecedented. Per sources, the most likely scenario is that the Pats will stay put at No. 3 and select LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels, North Carolina's Drake Maye or Michigan's J.J. McCarthy. "You can't win without a quarterback, said one Patriots source late last week. Daniels, who won the Heisman Trophy in 2023, is a dynamic dual threat at the position and has the most pure upside out of him, Maye and McCarthy. But New England may be picking from either Maye or McCarthy if Daniels goes to the Commanders at second overall.Source: ESPN Boston - Mike Reiss
4 days agoHarrison Burton did not have the greatest day at first, but it is not always about how one starts, but instead how one finishes. Burton was sixth after Stage 1 but 28th after Stage 2. By staying above the fray, Burton and his Wood Brothers Racing car was able to slide into the top 10 during the final laps at Talladega. His 10th-place finish was his best result of the 2024 season. Simply staying out of trouble allowed Burton to finish six spots above his qualifying spot. Superspeedways are a place that Burton does thrive at, and he seems to avoid trouble for the most part.Source: NASCAR.com
4 days agoAccording to NFL Media's Ian Rapoport, free-agent running back Dare Ogunbowale agreed to a one-year deal to remain with the Texans. The 29-year-old spent the last two seasons in Houston. He made 29 appearances for the franchise during that span, amassing 50 carries for 158 yards and a touchdown while adding 22 catches for 122 yards. However, most of Ogunbowale's snaps were as a member of the special teams unit, and that likely won't change during the 2024-25 campaign. As a result, he's not expected to see any attention from fantasy managers, especially with Joe Mixon and Dameon Pierce ahead on the depth chart.Source: Ian Rapoport
5 days agoLos Angeles Dodgers outfielder Andy Pages made some noise with the bat during Sunday's game against the New York Mets. The rookie outfielder went 2-for-4 at the plate with three RBI in the 10-0 victory. Pages smacked a 413-foot home run off Grant Hartwig, which was the first of his young career. Pages is now 4-for-15 with three extra base hits since being called up. The expectation is that Pages will continue getting regular at-bats until Jason Heyward (back) returns to the field. Fantasy managers in mixed leagues should consider Pages as a possible option.Source: MLB.com
5 days agoDetroit Tigers starting pitcher Casey Mize was able to hold the Minnesota Twins offense in check during Sunday's game. The right-hander threw six shutout innings during the 6-1 victory. This was his first win since Aug. 24, 2021 so a big milestone for Mize. He wasn't great on the mound, allowing five hits and three walks during this game. However, Mize was able to keep the Twins from scoring. He holds a 2.95 ERA through four starts this season.Source: MLB.com
5 days agoArizona Diamondbacks infielder Blaze Alexander (hamstring) was forced to exit early during Sunday's game against the San Francisco Giants. The young shortstop was pulled out of the game due to cramping in his right hamstring. This sounds like a minor issue that shouldn't force Alexander to the injured list. For the moment, fantasy managers should consider Alexander as day-to-day. Kevin Newman figures to see more playing time until Alexander is ready again.Source: Arizona Diamondbacks
5 days agoAtlanta Braves second baseman Ozzie Albies (toe) has been cleared to begin doing fielding drills. The switch-hitting infielder continues to make progress in his recovery from a fractured big right toe. The Braves haven't given a timetable for Albies return, so fantasy managers will have to remain patient. However, it sounds like Albies is progressing so hopefully he won't be sidelined for too much longer. In the meantime, David Fletcher and Luis Guillorme figure to continue splitting up the playing time at second base.Source: David O'Brien
5 days agoPhiladelphia 76ers guard De'Anthony Melton (back) remains out for Monday's game against the Knicks. Melton battled a back injury for most of the 2023-24 campaign. He also wasn't available for the Play-In tournament or Game 1 of the series with New York on Saturday night. Head coach Nick Nurse hasn't closed the door on Melton returning at some point. However, there's a chance he won't be back until at least next season. Nonetheless, it appears Nurse will give the starting lineup more minutes they can handle, so Melton likely wouldn't have done much to benefit fantasy managers even if he were available.Source: NBA Injury Report
5 days agoAtlanta Braves catcher Sean Murphy (oblique) has slowly been working his way back from an injury he suffered earlier in the month. The good news is that Murphy has recently increased his throwing intensity. That is a step in the right direction for Murphy who is working his way back from a Grade 1 oblique strain. The 29-year-old still hasn't begun swinging a bat yet, which means he probably won't return anytime soon. In the meantime, Travis d'Arnaud should continue being the primary catcher in Atlanta.Source: David O'Brien
5 days agoLos Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James (ankle) is listed as probable for Monday's postseason clash with the Denver Nuggets. By now, most should expect him on the injury report for the remainder of the playoffs. But unless James suffers a significant setback with his nagging ankle injury, DFS managers should expect to see him out there. The 39-year-old continues to produce at a high level, most recently amassing 27 points, eight assists, and six rebounds in the Game 1 loss to the champs. He also had seven turnovers, although that shouldn't keep DFS managers from putting him in their lineups.Source: NBA Injury Report
5 days agoLos Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Tyler Glasnow looked sharp during Sunday's game against the New York Mets. The right-hander struck out 10 batters over his eight shutout innings of work during Sunday's 10-0 win. Glasnow did allow seven hits, but they were all singles. He currently holds a 4-1 record with a 2.92 ERA and a 44/9 K/BB ratio in 37 innings this season.Source: MLB.com
5 days agoLos Angeles Lakers forward Anthony Davis (back) is probable heading toward Monday's matchup with the Nuggets. AD was on the injury report ahead of the Game 1 loss to the champs. But as expected, he was on the floor. Davis looked good, too, amassing a 32-point, 14-rebound double-double with four blocks. Head coach Mike Malone will likely make some adjustments, making it unlikely Davis will remain as productive in Game 2.Source: NBA Injury Report
5 days agoMilwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo (calf) was officially ruled out ahead of Sunday's postseason contest against the Pacers. While the multi-time MVP still hasn't practiced since suffering a left Soleus strain, TNT's Jared Greenberg reported that the team remains optimistic he'll be back at some point during the series with Indiana. Of course, many believe Antetokounmpo won't be back on the floor until the 2024-25 campaign. However, it appears there's still a chance he'll be back. In the meantime, Damian Lillard, Khris Middleton, Brook Lopez, and Bobby Portis will presumably stay the team's top scorers, with Pat Connaughton and Patrick Beverley expected to receive more minutes.Source: Jared Greenberg
5 days agoBoston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum scored a team-high 23 points in Sunday's postseason win over the Miami Heat. The former Blue Devil had issues shooting the ball, going 7-for-18 from the field and 1-for-8 from deep. However, he made all eight free throw tries and added 10 rebounds, 10 assists, and two steals. Tatum played well against the Heat during the 2023-24 campaign, averaging nearly a triple-double. He has an excellent chance to remain as productive, so he deserves attention from DFS managers moving ahead despite a likely rostering cost increase.Source: ESPN
5 days agoPhiladelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid (knee) is questionable for Monday's matchup with the Knicks. Embiid's presence on the injury report is nothing new. But he re-injured his surgically repaired left knee during the Game 1 loss to New York on Saturday, forcing him to exit the contest briefly. Many have called for the reigning MVP to get shut down until next season. However, Embiid dismissed the idea, so it appears he'll at least try to continue to play. With that in mind, his DFS ceiling is significantly lower for Game 2.Source: NBA Injury Report
5 days agoPhiladelphia Phillies starter Aaron Nola allowed two runs on four hits across eight innings of work during Sunday's 8-2 win over the Chicago White Sox. He struck out seven batters while walking one. It was an impressive outing for the 30-year-old as the only damage against him came off of an Eloy Jimenez blast in the first inning. Nola has now allowed two runs or fewer in four straight appearances after a shaky outing to kick off the campaign. He brings a 3-1 record, 3.16 ERA and 26/10 K/BB into his next projected start against the San Diego Padres. Nola is a must-start fantasy option while he is rolling like this.Source: MLB.com
5 days agoPhiladelphia Phillies designated hitter Kyle Schwarber went 1-for-1 with a home run, two RBI, three runs scored, and three walks during Sunday's 8-2 win over the Chicago White Sox. It was an impressive day at the plate for the Phillies and Schwarber was no exception. The 31-year-old is now slashing .217/.327/.434 with six homers, 11 RBI and one stolen base through 22 games. At this point, fantasy managers know what Schwarber brings to the table. He strikes out a ton and will hurt your ratios, but he can homer in bunches and will deliver solid counting stats across the board. A series at the hitter-friendly confines of Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati is up next.Source: MLB.com
5 days agoWashington Nationals second baseman Luis Garcia Jr. went 3-for-4 with two RBI and a stolen base during Sunday's 6-0 win over the Houston Astros. Garcia is now slashing .317/.348/.476 with one home run, 10 RBI and five stolen bases through 19 games. The 23-year-old has struggled with consistency thus far in his career, but he has looked composed at the plate to start 2024. Fantasy managers in deeper leagues could look to Garcia as a sneaky source of steals as he should continue to serve as the everyday second baseman in Washington.Source: MLB.com
5 days agoMiami Heat center Bam Adebayo scored a game-high 24 points in Sunday's loss to the Celtics. He added six rebounds and three assists. Tyler Herro struggled in Game 1. However, Adebayo did all he could to at least keep the game semi-competitive, although it wasn't enough. With Jimmy Butler (knee) and Terry Rozier (neck) on the shelf, the 26-year-old has an excellent chance of remaining the team's top scorer throughout the series, especially since Herro has had trouble shooting the ball of late. Both clubs will meet on Wednesday for Game 2. Of course, Adebayo will stay a viable DFS option.Source: ESPN
5 days agoWashington Nationals left-hander Mitchell Parker surrendered three hits across seven scoreless innings during Sunday's 6-0 win over the Houston Astros. Parker struck out eight batters without issuing a walk. Parker is the 21st-ranked prospect in the Nationals system and has looked great thus far in 2024. He now owns a 2-0 record to go along with a 1.50 ERA and 0.58 WHIP. Most impressively, the 24-year-old has not issued a walk in his two major-league starts. He may not continue this level of success, but he looks like he will stick in the Nationals rotation for the time being. Parker makes for an interesting streaming option in his next projected start against the Miami Marlins.Source: MLB.com
5 days agoMiami Heat guard Tyler Herro struggled in Sunday's 114-94 loss to the Celtics. After scoring a game-high 24 points in Friday's Play-In win over the Bulls, he had 11 in Game 1, going just 4-for-13 from the field and 3-for-9 from behind the arc. The 24-year-old added four rebounds and four assists. But it was still a disappointing showing from Herro, who will now try to turn things around in Game 2 on Wednesday night. However, the C's could continue to target him on the defensive end, so his DFS potential could remain limited for the rest of the series.Source: ESPN
5 days agoNew York Mets catcher Tomas Nido is slated to make his first start of the 2024 season as the New York Mets look to complete a three-game sweep against the Los Angeles Dodgers and continue their six-game win streak. Nido was promoted from Triple-A Syracuse yesterday when Francisco Alvarez (thumb) was placed on the injured list. Nido struggled at the plate last season as he hit for a .125/.153/.125 stat line across 61 plate appearances. The 30-year-old should be expected to serve as the backup catcher in Queens behind Omar Narvaez for the foreseeable future. Nido will have trouble finding a path to fantasy relevance in a limited role and due to his past struggles in the batter's box. He is best left as a desperation option in DFS but has a difficult matchup today as he will face Tyler Glasnow.Source: MLB.com
5 days agoLos Angeles Dodgers outfielder Andy Pages is making his fifth consecutive start on Sunday as the Dodgers hope to avoid a three-game sweep of the New York Mets. Pages was promoted to the major league roster prior to Tuesday's game and has started in every game since. The number three prospect in the Dodgers system has posted a .143/.250/.214 line across his small taste of the big leagues but was riding a .371/.452/.694 line across Triple-A to begin the season. It has been very promising to see Pages in the lineup every day since his callup, signaling to fantasy managers that the Dodgers value his bat and is worth adding if still available on your waiver wire. Pages could be a sneaky play in DFS as he will face Adrian Houser, who is entering Sunday with a 4.70 ERA.Source: MLB.com
5 days agoCincinnati Reds starting pitcher Frankie Montas (undisclosed) left Sunday's game early after being hit by a comebacker off outfielder Taylor Ward. The ball struck Montas in his pitching arm, which was why he had to leave the game. Brent Suter replaced Montas as a result. There have not been any updates on the extent of the injury, so fantasy managers will have to keep a close eye on his status before his next scheduled start. Montas was off to a great start with his new team, as he did not allow an earned run until his third start. Since then, Montas has allowed nine earned runs. Brent Suter is an option to replace Montas in the rotation if he were to have an extended absence.Source: Mike Petraglia
5 days agoSeattle Mariners relief pitcher Matt Brash (elbow) is nearing a rehab assignment, according to Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times. Brash has been shut down since Spring Training due to elbow inflammation but has recently thrown a bullpen session and is now quickly approaching the final step in his recovery process. The 25-year-old was an elite set-up man for Seattle last season as he posted a 3.06 ERA and 1.33 WHIP with 107 punchouts across 70 ⅔ innings. Brash finished the season with 24 holds, which tied him for 11th best in the major leagues. Brash is worth looking into in leagues that score holds, as he will be given ample opportunities and should also improve your team's pitching ratios.Source: Ryan Divish
5 days agoSeattle Mariners starting pitcher Bryan Woo (elbow) is slated to begin his rehab assignment with the Triple-A Tacoma Rainiers on Sunday, according to Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times. Woo was diagnosed with elbow inflammation during Spring Training and has been on the IL since the start of the season. The 24-year-old made his major league debut last summer and pitched to the tune of a 4.21 ERA and 1.21 WHIP across 87 ⅔ innings and tallied 93 punchouts. The right-handed pitcher placed in the 83rd percentile among qualified pitchers in hard-hit rate and 77th percentile in barrel rate, showing how he succeeded in limited hard contact. Woo should be expected to slot in the Mariners rotation as soon as he joins the major league club and is worth adding if on your waiver wire.Source: Ryan Divish
5 days agoArizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Merrill Kelly (undisclosed) has been scratched from his scheduled start on Sunday in the final game of a four-game set against their division rival San Francisco Giants. Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reported the news, but there has not been any clarity on why the 35-year-old will not be on the bump, so fantasy managers should pay close attention over the next few days. Kelly was off to another strong season, sporting a 2.19 ERA and 0.93 WHIP across 24 ⅔ innings. Slade Cecconi is slated to serve as the Arizona starter and has yet to take the mound this season.Source: Nick Piecoro
5 days agoMinnesota Twins reliever Jhoan Duran (oblique) will begin a rehab assignment on Tuesday at Triple-A St. Paul. The fireballer recently threw a live batting practice without any discomfort and will now begin the next step in his recovery. Duran will likely be able to return to the majors within the next couple weeks, assuming there are no setbacks. The 26-year-old should be rostered in all fantasy formats as he offers high-end upside as a closer. He may not resume his ninth-inning duties right away for the Twins, but there is no doubt that he will return to closing at some point in the near future.Source: Betsy Helfand
5 days agoMilwaukee Brewers left-hander DL Hall (knee) was placed on the 15-day injured list with a left knee sprain on Sunday afternoon. Hall reportedly suffered the injury while fielding a bunt against the St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday. The 25-year-old came into the season with some hype after pitching well as a reliever in 2023. Unfortunately, the results have not been good for the former top prospect as he owns a 7.71 ERA, 2.27 WHIP and 13/10 K/BB through four starts this season. It is currently unclear how the Brewers plan to fill Hall's spot rotation, but Bryse Wilson and Robert Gasser are both in consideration.Source: Todd Rosiak
