3 years agoWith Cody Zeller out against Detroit, Frank Kaminsky is going to take on a massive role as one of the few Charlotte big men. Along with Christian Wood and Mike Tobey, Kaminsky is clearly the most experienced of the three, although Wood and Tobey offer intriguing DFS targets for the time being. Going against Andre Drummond does not make the matchup ideal for anyone in the Hornets' frontcourt, but minutes are minutes. While the basement-level price of both players makes them potential sleeper options in the future, tonight they should be avoided.--Jake Finnen - RotoBallerSource: Aaron McMann

3 years agoAfter the biggest trade of the season, DeMarcus Cousins is now alongside Anthony Davis, creating the hands-down, unrivaled, best big man duo in the NBA. In the first game back, it will be all about Cousins and Davis. Roster them both and expect production. This will also skyrocket Jrue Holiday's production into All-Star-like numbers, hopefully starting a winning trend in New Orleans. It is unclear how this will affect the rest of the team, either taking away from everyone completely or adding the perfect spacing that gives everyone the ability, time and room to operate their respective styles of play. On a very unrelated note, expect E'Twaun Moore to see increased production with the spacing he will get from both Cousins and Davis.--Jake Finnen - RotoBallerSource: NBA on Twitter

3 years agoAs expected, Deron Williams plans to join the Cleveland Cavaliers, assuming he clears waivers. Williams could become the playmaker that the Cavs were hoping to add to satisfy LeBron James. With Kyrie Irving as their starting point guard and Williams as his backup, the Cavaliers have compensated for the loss of Matthew Dellavedova last summer. Expect that Williams will receive less playing time than he did in Dallas (29 minutes per game). Instead, he should be in line for a backup's minutes, more in the region of 15 to 20 minutes per game. Accordingly, his output should fall slightly below his averages of 13.1 points and 6.9 assists per game.--Matt De SilvaSource: Jon Krawczynski

3 years agoSan Antonio Spurs power forward/center Pau Gasol (fractured metacarpal) is listed as probable for Friday's game against the Los Angeles Clippers. His 11.7 points, 7.9 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.2 blocks per game are decent averages - even if they're lower than usual for the Spaniard. If he's available on your waiver wire, then he's certainly worth the addition. Despite poor free throw shooting and middling statistical output, Gasol remains a roster player in most fantasy formats. Nonetheless, be wary as coach Gregg Popovich has demonstrated a propensity to rest his veterans as we near the playoffs.--Matt De SilvaSource: Spurs

3 years agoThe New Orleans Pelicans have waived power forward Terrence Jones. Averaging 11.5 points, 5.9 rebounds, and one block per game, Jones is a solid shooter who's been displaced by the arrival of DeMarcus Cousins. This latest move should open up playing time for Omri Casspi, who was also acquired from the Sacramento Kings. Jones should receive interest from a lot of teams, so he shouldn't drop off your fantasy radar entirely. The Pelicans will likely replace Jones with a guard to complement their lineup. Keep an eye on our feed for word on where Terrence Jones lands next.--Matt De SilvaSource: Chris Vivlamore

3 years agoNot only will newly acquired guard Terrence Ross be in the starting lineup, but Elfrid Payton will return to the starting point guard role with C.J. Watson out with an Achilles strain. The game before the break, the Magic were held to 79 points by the Spurs, with Payton scoring seven, going 3-8 from the field. Payton has slightly improved his scoring, but the starting role has been a thorn in his side. He is a defensive-minded guard that struggles with a jump shot, although his size should give him upside in rebounds. Payton has the ability to get to the rim, but when he can't, he struggles to find a consistent jumper. Payton should be owned in all leagues, while DFS gamers should monitor him going forward.--Jake Finnen - RotoBallerSource: John Denton

3 years agoThe Orlando Magic gave up Serge Ibaka in a trade that gives Terrence Ross a starting role in the Magic backcourt. With Ross as the starting shooting guard, Evan Fournier is pushed to the three, and Aaron Gordon to the power forward role. While the first game after the All-Star break is always hard to judge, Ross will be the starting guard going against the Trail Blazers. Ross should be a key scorer for the Magic, and he needs to be picked up in all leagues, while his DFS value is still a little murky. He is an inconsistent shooter, but maybe a starting role will give him the confidence to knock down shots. Ross has dropped 55 in a game before, so we know his ceiling is high.--Jake Finnen - RotoBallerSource: John Denton

3 years agoIt looks like the Dallas Mavericks might be ready to turn the team over to rookie sensation Yogi Ferrell. Reports are surfacing that the Mavs are in talks regarding a buyout of point guard Deron Williams. If that's the case, then you need to hop on the Yogi train right away! Although Williams possesses season averages of 13.1 points, 6.9 assists and 2.6 rebounds, he was quickly replaced while out due to injury. Ferrell captured the national spotlight with a terrific performance against the Cleveland Cavaliers, and he soon signed a two-year deal with Dallas. Despite his flashes of brilliance, Ferrell has been a tad inconsistent as opposing teams have scouted his tendencies. However, if the man receives in excess of 30 minutes per night, then he's certainly a roster player in most leagues. Also keep an eye on Williams to see if he joins a contender. This could boost his fantasy stock dramatically.--Matt De SilvaSource: Tim Macmahon

3 years agoThe Toronto Raptors have acquired swingman P.J. Tucker from the Phoenix Suns in exchange for power forward Jared Sullinger and two future second-round picks. Tucker has immense positional versatility, slotting in at shooting guard, small forward or power forward. He averages seven points, six rebounds, 1.5 steals and 1.3 assists in 29 minutes per game, so he often flies under the radar in fantasy leagues. However, his style of play and out-of-position productivity can make him a useful part of a roster. In Toronto, Tucker will complement the play of DeMarre Carroll. For the Suns, this opens up playing time for T.J. Warren and dunk contest participant Derrick Jones.--Matt De SilvaSource: Adrian Wojnarowski
Share:
3 years agoThe Los Angeles Lakers have acquired point guard Tyler Ennis from the Houston Rockets in exchange for 33-year-old Marcelo Huertas. Houston is expected to waive Huertas. The 22-year-old Ennis has barely registered any playing time this season, especially since the Rockets boast a strong guard contingent including James Harden, Patrick Beverley and Eric Gordon. Now behind Jordan Clarkson and D'Angelo Russell in Los Angeles, Ennis is unlikely to develop this year.--Matt De SilvaSource: Adrian Wojnarowski

3 years agoThe Houston Rockets have dealt small forward K.J. McDaniels to the Brooklyn Nets. McDaniels is far from a fantasy contributor, averaging just 2.8 points and one rebound in seven minutes per game. In Houston, he had little chance of getting playing time with a heavy guard rotation and Trevor Ariza ahead of him on the depth chart. Brooklyn, which just parted ways with Bojan Bogdanovic (sent to Washington in a trade), might offer a greater opportunity for McDaniels. His best season came in 2014-2015 when he averaged 9.2 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.3 assists in 25 minutes per game in Philadelphia. Don't expect a sudden turnaround. If anything, this opens up additional playing time for the likes of Ryan Anderson and Sam Dekker.--Matt De SilvaSource: Adrian Wojnarowski

3 years agoUtah Jazz shooting guard Rodney Hood (knee) is expected to play Friday against the Milwaukee Bucks. Chipping in 13.7 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game, Hood would be a welcome addition to a Utah lineup that is fighting for playoff positioning. If Hood returns, then Joe Ingles will have a reduced role. In his last outing against the Portland Trail Blazers, Ingles recorded 18 points, four rebounds, four assists, four steals, and four three-pointers in 32 minutes. Ingles seems to rise and fall depending on whether he's a starter or coming off the bench. If you're a manager with either Ingles or Hood on your roster - unless you're in a very deep league - then be aware that there are certainly better options out there.--Matt De SilvaSource: Andy Larsen

3 years agoSacramento Kings shooting guard Garrett Temple has been ruled out for tonight's game against the Denver Nuggets. With Temple sidelined, this should open things up for the newly acquired Buddy Hield. With the amount of love he's received from owner Vivek Ranadive, it wouldn't be surprising to see Hield thrust into a featured role right away. Averaging 8.6 points on 39.2 percent shooting, Hield is far from efficient. However, if he's the offensive driver in Sacramento, then Hield should see a nice bump in his scoring average. With Temple out, Tyreke Evans and Arron Afflalo should also see increased playing time. It will take some time for Sacramento's guard rotation to shake out, but Hield and Evans are the most intriguing for their fantasy potential.--Matt De SilvaSource: Sean Cunningham
Share:
3 years agoLos Angeles Clippers point guard Chris Paul (thumb) will not play in tonight's game against the Golden State Warriors. This isn't a huge surprise, as he was only just medically cleared to return to action. Coach Doc Rivers appears to be playing it safe with his prized point guard. Managers with CP3 on their rosters will need to wait just a little while longer before they can take advantage of his 17.5 points, 9.7 assists, 5.3 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game. It's a small price to pay to enjoy the return of a fantasy superstar. The Clippers are playing a back-to-back against the Warriors and the Spurs, so the more likely date for Paul's return is Sunday against the Charlotte Hornets. Until then, guards Austin Rivers, Jamal Crawford and Raymond Felton are decent options. They're obviously not your go-to with Paul's return on the horizon. With Paul out tonight, Stephen Curry is a strong DFS play. He's run roughshod against the Clippers this year.--Matt De SilvaSource: Brad Turner
