Nolan Arenado 2020 Outlook: The Model of Consistency
5 years agoNolan Arenado had another outstanding season in 2019 after signing an eight-year $260 million contract before Spring Training. He hit .315/.379/.583 with 41 HR, 118 RBI, 102 R, and 62 BB. He set career highs in AVG and OBP and was well within his three-year averages for the other counting stats. He was essentially the definition of consistent as he ranked at or near the top of the league in AVG, OBP, SLG, OPS, and wOBA. He also put up a solid .272 xBA, which also fell right in line with his career norm of .271. His exit velocity was only 89.4 mph, which ranked near league average, but that is on pace with his career average of 89.6 mph. His .269 ISO was also in line with his three-year average of .272. Unfortunately, he provides little to no speed, so owners will not be rewarded with stolen bases. However, this is a small price to pay for nearly 40 HR, 200 plus RBI+R, and a .300 BA. Playing at Coors Field certainly helps his draft stock vs. other top-flight third basemen as well. Feel confident drafting him as the first or second third baseman off the board with a pick inside the top 12 overall.
