Keibert Ruiz Dropped To No. 7 Spot, Slugs Two-Run Homer
1 year agoWashington Nationals catcher Keibert Ruiz hit seventh for the first this season on Friday. He responded by slamming a two-run blast as part of the team's fierce comeback attempt against the Detroit Tigers on Friday. They ultimately fell 8-6, but not before Ruiz curbed an 0-for-14 skid across his prior three outings. The 24-year-old is yet to develop into a difference-making backstop this year, slashing only .233/.302/.363 over 146 at-bats. Ruiz doesn't get rung up often, though, as he possesses a 7.6% strikeout rate, which is the best among catchers. Hopefully he can expand upon Friday's effort going forward, perhaps even rejoining a more advantageous spot in the Nationals batting order soon enough.
