Anthony Richardson Injury Update for Training Camp

Indianapolis Colts head coach Shane Steichen wouldn't say definitively that Richardson (shoulder) will be cleared by next month but he "should be" after missing most of his rookie season in 2023 with an AC joint sprain that required season-ending surgery.

"I know he's super fired up and ready to roll through the spring practice and training camp and this season," Steichen said. The 21-year-old had surgery on Oct. 24 and began throwing last month. This year in training camp, Richardson will take all of the starting reps while Joe Flacco serves as his backup.

Anthony Richardson 2024 Fantasy Football Outlook

Richardson averaged 23.1 fantasy points per game through his first three starts last year, so the hype has already grown ahead of the 2024 campaign. In early FFPC Best Ball drafts, Richardson is coming off the board around the QB5 spot. This puts him right behind Lamar Jackson and just ahead of C.J. Stroud.

Given his elite rushing floor and ceiling, he likely just needs to have an average passing season to possess top-five fantasy QB potential. He scored four rushing touchdowns in his first three NFL contests, so a double-digit touchdown season on the ground is in play.

The Colts are likely to be careful with him outside the pocket and beyond the line of scrimmage considering his injury woes last season, but rushing is a significant part of his game, so it won't all go away in 2024.
