Vance McDonald 2020 Outlook: Injuries, Inconsistency Continue To Hold Him Back
5 years agoAlong with the rest of the Steelers offense in 2019, Vance McDonald suffered mightily from the season-ending injury to Ben Roethlisberger in just the second week of the season. After recording a career-high 50 catches for 610 yards and four touchdowns in 2018, many were expecting a breakout from McDonald last year. That certainly didn't happen, as he finished behind Ricky Seals-Jones as the No. 36 fantasy tight end with only 38 catches, 273 receiving yards and three scores in 14 games. Injuries remain an issue for the former second-round pick entering his age-30 season. McDonald has never played a full season in seven years in the league and will now have to compete for targets with pass-catching tight end Eric Ebron. There should be a role for McDonald and having Big Ben back to full health would be a big plus, but the fact remains that McDonald is an injury risk with an even lower ceiling. Treat him as a low-end TE2 in deeper leagues.
