1 month agoToronto Maple Leafs center Auston Matthews scored two goals on Monday and increased his league-leading total to 62 as part of a 6-4 win over the visiting Florida Panthers. The 26-year-old added an assist and was plus-three on the night in his 18:36 of ice time. Matthews tapped in a pass from T.J. Brodie to make it 2-0 Toronto before a nifty play to cap the victory with an empty-net tally with less than a minute to in regulation. Matthews is up to 98 points and a massive plus-32 rating on the season, his eighth in the NHL. 1 month agoThe San Jose Sharks have recalled forward Jack Studnicka from the American Hockey League's San Jose Barracuda. The 25-year-old has appeared in nine games with the Sharks this season but has failed to record a point and posted a minus-six rating in his 11:05 of average ice time per game. He has also appeared in 27 games with the Barracuda, tallying six goals and 14 points with 12 penalty minutes across 27 games. 1 month agoBoston Bruins forward Pat Maroon practiced for the first time with the Bruins on Monday after the club acquired him from the Minnesota Wild at the trade deadline. The veteran remains week to week while recovering from back surgery that took place on Feb. 6. He was skating on his own prior to Monday and last played on Jan. 27 for the Wild. "I just think, for me, [I've] just got to keep going," Maroon said. "I've been out for almost 12 weeks, so I think just getting your conditioning back, getting up to speed with the group, getting some line rushes, getting some touches. Because it's a completely different game when you're just skating by yourself. Maroon has tallied four goals and 16 points in 49 games for the Wild this season.Source: NHL.com
1 month agoToronto Maple Leafs defenseman Morgan Rielly (upper body) will miss his fourth straight game Monday when the team takes on the Florida Panthers, although he did participate in the morning skate on Monday. The veteran is dealing with an upper-body injury and last played on March 24 in a 2-1 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes. "He's day-to-day," Toronto head coach Sheldon Keefe said. "Today I think was his first time on the ice coming through this, so he will be day-to-day from here. But he's close to 100 percent here now." The veteran is in the midst of a nice season, his 11th in the NHL, as he has tallied seven goals and 51 points across 65 games on the season, adding 90 hits, 122 blocks, and a plus-eight rating to his ledger.Source: NHL.com
1 month agoPhiladelphia Flyers defenseman Jamie Drysdale (upper body) will return to the lineup Monday when the team takes on the New York Islanders. The 21-year-old has missed the past 16 games due to an upper-body injury. "I just came in, they said today was the day, but you never know, and then I came and just saw the number on the board," Drysdale said. "It's nice to be back. It [stinks] being out, especially when your team is kind of going into war night in and night out. That's never fun, so it's just real good to be back." Drysdale has been beleaguered by injuries in his young career, skating in just eight games last season before undergoing season-ending shoulder surgery. 1 month agoVegas Golden Knights forward Tomas Hertl practiced for the first time with the team since being acquired from the San Jose Sharks at the trade deadline. The veteran skated in a non-contact jersey. Hertl has been skating on his own after he decided to clean out loose cartilage in his left knee, a procedure that took place on Feb. 12. "It's important for him to get around his teammates and that type of environment," Vegas coach Bruce Cassidy said after practice Monday. "He's been skating on his own here a little bit while we were away. I think it's great for him to start interacting, see what it looks like, how we practice." 1 month agoAnaheim Ducks defenseman Oleg Wellweger scored the first goal of his NHL career as part of his team's 3-2 defeat at the hands of the Vancouver Canucks. The rookie, drafted in the second round of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft, now has four points on 24 shots, along with a minus-five rating, across the first 19 games of his NHL career. He has averaged 18:43 of ice time per game. The 20-year-old has had a big season with AHL San Diego as he has tallied 12 goals and 37 points in 44 games with the Gulls along with 16 penalty minutes and a minus-one rating. 1 month agoMinnesota Wild forward Ryan Hartman will have a hearing with the NHL Department of Player Safety on Monday. The pivot is facing discipline for unsportsmanlike conduct at the conclusion of a 2-1 overtime loss to the Vegas Golden Knights on Saturday. The Wild pulled their goaltender in the extra frame on Saturday, and when the Golden Knights scored into the empty net the Wild forfeited the one point they earned in regular time. Hartman then received a minor penalty for abusive language. The No. 4 pick in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft will take his second tour of duty with the club this season after he failed to record a point in a brief three-game stint earlier in the season from Nov. 9-13. He tallied one goal and two points across eight NHL contests last season before being reassigned to the Ontario Hockey League's Windsor Spitfires. The 20-year-old has had a solid season with the Firebirds, recording 20 goals and 43 points in 56 games with a plus-five rating on his ledger. The 24-year-old was the Kings' second-round pick in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft and has spent the past four seasons with the Reign. He has recorded 22 goals and 43 points along with 39 penalty minutes and a plus-five rating across 61 games with the team this season. The Latvian netminder turned aside 20 of the 22 shots he faced (.909 save percentage) in the winning effort, which was his first NHL appearance of the season after getting five outings with the Canucks in the 2022-23 campaign. The 23-year-old has been solid in his limited NHL duty, posting a 2.62 goals-against average and a .908 Sv% in six appearances, four of which have resulted in wins. The 27-year-old made it 2-0 Canucks midway through the second period before breaking a 2-2 tie to score the winner with just 2:13 remaining in the game. The two-goal effort gave the gritty forward 15 goals and 28 points on the season while he has added a healthy plus-16 rating and 46 penalty minutes to his ledger. 1 month agoDallas Stars goaltender Jake Oettinger posted his 30th win of the campaign in style on Saturday, registering a shutout in a 3-0 road win over Seattle. He needed to make only 17 saves to get his second shutout of the season. Oettinger has become the first Stars netminder with three consecutive 30-win seasons since Marty Turco had a six-year run at the beginning of the century. The 25-year-old is on a five-game winning streak, which has taken his record to 30-13-4. Oettinger's goals-against average has dropped to 2.87 this season, and he has a less-than-impressive .900 save percentage, but Dallas' No. 1 has been a consistent source of wins for fantasy managers. 1 month agoNew York Rangers winger Alexis Lafreniere looked spectacular against the Coyotes on Saturday, completing an 8-5 win with his first career hat trick and five points. The 22-year-old became the Rangers' youngest player in 35 years to get to as many as five points in a single game. Lafreniere's NHL career has been full of bumps since he went first in the 2020 draft, but he's had a solid campaign in 2023-24 with 25 goals and 52 points in 74 games. Playing next to the sensational Artemi Panarin and Vincent Trocheck, Lafreniere has had a couple of very prolific weeks. The 38-year-old stopped 27 saves to move past Ryan Miller on the all-time list. Quick has recorded 17 of his victories as New York's backup this season, posting a strong 17-5-2 record in 24 starts.
