1 month agoPittsburgh Penguins center Evgeni Malkin picked up three points as the team had an impressive comeback victory against New Jersey on Tuesday. The Penguins were starting at a 3-1 defeat before exploding for five goals in the third period and winning 6-3. Malkin had two of the markers and also registered a power-play assist. He joined Mario Lemieux (74), Jaromir Jagr (33), and Sidney Crosby (24) as the fourth player in franchise history with 20-plus career three-point periods. Malkin's productivity has been lacking over the last couple of months, but he's done well in the most recent four games, with four goals and two assists recorded. Across the entire campaign, the veteran star has totaled 23 goals and 59 points in 75 contests.Source: ESPN
1 month agoBuffalo Sabres defenseman Rasmus Dahlin was one of the catalysts in Tuesday's 6-2 triumph over Washington, completing the contest with a goal and two assists. He scored his 18th goal of the season on the power play and delivered a pair of even-strength assists for his ninth career three-point outing. Dahlin has set a new career high in goals scored this season and is on track for a 60-point campaign, having also collected 38 assists in 75 appearances. However, the Swedish blue-liner has been inconsistent with his work on the offensive end lately, going scoreless in five of his last eight outings.Source: ESPN
1 month agoVegas Golden Knights winger Jonathan Marchessault established a new franchise record in Tuesday's 6-3 victory over Vancouver by posting his eighth three-point outing of the season. He scored the team's second goal and handed out a pair of assists, including one on the power play. Marchessault did all the work during the team's four-goal opening period. With 41 goals in the bag, the 33-year-old needs only three more markers to also set a new Vegas record for most goals scored in a season. Marchessault has added 25 assists to his account in 75 games as the highest-scoring Golden Knight in 2023-24.Source: ESPN
1 month agoFlorida Panthers defenseman Aaron Ekblad exited Tuesday's contest against Montreal early with an undisclosed injury. He took only 11 shifts and logged 7:16 on the ice. This was only the fourth game back from a lower-body injury for Ekblad, who also missed a large chunk at the start of the campaign following offseason shoulder surgery. The team might now have to cope with his absence again. Health issues have limited the 28-year-old to 51 appearances in 2023-24. He's had 18 points (four goals, 14 assists) with 98 shots, 85 hits, 59 blocks, and a plus-27 rating. Tobias Bjornfot and Josh Mahura are candidates to replace Ekblad in the lineup.Source: Florida Panthers
1 month agoAnaheim Ducks forward Mason McTavish suffered a lower-body injury in Tuesday's 5-3 victory over Calgary. He managed to score in a second consecutive game before being forced to exit the contest after logging 6:32 of ice time. The young forward has had multiple health issues lately, which has badly affected his form. McTavish was Anaheim's top scorer through the first half of the season, but he's gone scoreless in 12 of his last 16 appearances. In 64 games across the campaign, McTavish has tallied 19 goals and 23 assists. Frank Vatrano could rejoin the top six if McTavish is headed for another spell on the sidelines.Source: Derek Lee
1 month agoFlorida Panthers winger Carter Verhaeghe (undisclosed) won't play on Tuesday and is considered week-to-week. Verhaeghe suffered an injury in the third period of the Panthers Monday game against the Toronto Maple Leafs. The team expects Verhaeghe to be ready for the playoffs, but that doesn't help his fantasy owners, who will likely be without the 28-year-old for the rest of the fantasy season. It will be hard to replace the wingers 71 points (33 goals, 38 assists) in 75 games this season. Evan Rodrigues or Eetu Luostarinen are the top candidates to take his place on the top line, and either would be a worthwhile streamer with both Verhaeghe and Matthew Tkachuk out tonight.Source: Steve Goldstein
1 month agoWashington Capitals forward T.J. Oshie (undisclosed) will miss Tuesday's clash against the Buffalo Sabres. Oshie has had an injury-riddled season, and it continues on Tuesday, as the winger will miss his 27th game of the season due to an undisclosed injury. The 37-year-old has 22 points (11 goals, 11 assists) in 47 games as part of Washington's top six. He has retreated to a depth role at this point of his career, and isn't of much use in fantasy outside of deeper leagues.Source: Rachel Hopmayer
1 month agoDallas Stars defenseman Chris Tanev (upper body) participated fully in practice on Tuesday and is not expected to miss any games. Tanev left Saturday's game against the Seattle Kraken early after taking an elbow to the face from Adam Larsson, but he was able to return. Tanev has been a big addition for Dallas, who were in need of a shutdown defenseman who can kill penalties. That said, he won't do much for fantasy leagues outside of those in need of blocks.Source: Brien Rea
1 month agoToronto Maple Leafs defenseman Morgan Rielly (upper body) appears ready to return for the team's game on Wednesday against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Rielly has missed four games while nursing an upper-body injury, but head coach Sheldon Keefe said that he expects the defender to be ready to play on Wednesday. Rielly has 51 points (seven goals, 44 assists) in 65 games from the back end and would be a big final-week addition to fantasy teams that are stashing him on IR. He should regain top powerplay duties upon his return.Source: David Alter
1 month agoToronto Maple Leafs winger Mitch Marner (ankle) could make his return this weekend against the Montreal Canadiens. Marner has missed 10 games with an ankle injury, but head coach Sheldon Keefe suggested that the forward is trending towards a return on Saturday. Marner will be a huge boost to the any fantasy teams stashing him on their IR, as the 26-year-old has 76 points (25 goals, 51 assists) in 62 games this year. He should immediately rejoin Auston Matthews on the first line and first powerplay unit.Source: David Alter
1 month agoVegas Golden Knights forward Tomas Hertl (knee) was skating in a regular jersey during practice on Tuesday and could return Friday. Head coach Bruce Cassidy ruled Hertl out for Tuesday's game, but his regular jersey debut points to a return soon. Vegas will want to get the trade deadline acquisition into the lineup for the last part of the regular season to smooth out the transition process. He should be a member of the top six and get good powerplay time, making him a good add for the final few weeks if your league runs through the whole regular season. Source: SinBinVegas
1 month agoThe Carolina Hurricanes have signed defensive prospect Scott Morrow to a three-year entry level contract. Morrow was drafted 40th overall in the second round of the 2021 NHL Draft, and has since seen his stock improve, putting up an incredible 94 points (28 goals, 66 assists) in 109 games for the University of Massachusetts over the past three seasons. He projects as a two-way defender with loads of potential, and should be given a look in dynasty leagues.Source: Carolina Hurricanes
1 month agoPittsburgh Penguins center Sidney Crosby notched two goals and an assist for a three-point night en route to a 5-2 win over the hosting New York Rangers. With the effort, the future Hall of Famer ensured he will hit at least one point per game for the 19th season, tying legend Wayne Gretzky for the most of all-time. It has been a disappointing season for the Pens whose playoff chances are on life support as they still sit five points back of the final Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference behind the Washington Capitals who hold a game in hand.Source: NHL.com
1 month agoMinnesota Wild center Ryan Hartman has been hit with a three-game ban for unsportsmanlike conduct following a 2-1 overtime loss to the Vegas Golden Knights on Saturday. Hartman was assessed a 10-minute misconduct for his behavior at 3:30 of overtime. The Wild had pulled their goaltender in overtime, which left them vulnerable to lose the point they had gained by taking the contest past regulation but once Vegas scored, the Wild forfeited the point and were left without a point on the evening. For the season, Hartman has recorded 19 goals and 42 points across 68 games but has also added 72 hits and 72 penalty minutes to his ledger, making him a decent depth addition for fantasy managers.Source: NHL.com
1 month agoColumbus Blue Jackets forward Alex Nylander scored a pair of second-period goals as his team pulled off a massive upset over the visiting Colorado Avalanche. The 26-year-old has exploded seemingly out of nowhere this season, tallying 10 goals and 13 points in 17 games while firing 48 shots on goal in that time. The brother of Toronto's William Nylander, Alex has 22 goals and 45 points across 114 games in the NHL. He has also tallied 17 goals and 32 points across 43 games with the American Hockey League's Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins this season.
