36 mins agoHideki Matsuyama announced his withdrawal from the Wells Fargo Championship just before his first-round tee time due to a back injury. This was set to be Matsuyama's first appearance since the Masters Tournament last month. He had been performing well and was in excellent form leading up to the Wells Fargo Championship this week, with three top-15 finishes, two top-10 finishes, and one win in his previous five appearances.Source: PGA Tour
1 day agoPatrick Cantlay won't be on any course-horse lists as he heads to Charlotte this week. The PGA Tour star and current No. 8 golfer in the official rankings has had a rough go of things in his last two starts at Quail Hollow. He finished with a middlingread more...
1 day agoHideki Matsuyama was a popular selection in his last Tour start at the Masters, but he disappointed fantasy managers with a T38 finish. There should be no hesitation to go right back to the well with the 32-year-old Japanese star this week. Matsuyama's recent form is one ofread more...
1 day agoRussell Henley will likely be a popular option for fantasy managers this week based on recent form, but it may be wise to proceed with caution at this year's Wells Fargo Championship. The 35-year-old tour veteran has three top-10 finishes in just 10 events in the 2024 calendar year, and generally projects as a safe, high-upside golfer with win equity. However, Henley doesn't appear to be a great course fit at Quail Hollow, which may explain his two missed cuts and a T72 in his last three starts here. His accuracy of the tee strength will be nullified for the most part, and over the last 24 rounds he ranks 62nd in driving distance, outside of the top-55 in approach play from 175+ yards, 54th in Poa putting, and 55th in strokes gained on long courses. All of these stats are traditionally a recipe for disaster at Quail Hollow, and fantasy managers choosing to roster Henley this week may be doing so at their own peril.Source: PGA Tour

1 day agoFantasy managers will have no problem checking the recent form box for Christiaan Bezuidenhout this week. The 29-year-old South African has finished inside of the top-30 in eight of his 11 PGA Tour starts in the 2024 calendar year, and he posted a T3 in his most recent start two weeks ago at the DP World Tour's ISPS Handa Championship. And while he may not fit the bomber narrative this week, he has fared well on long and difficult courses recently and he matches up well statistically with Quail Hollow. Over the last 24 rounds, he ranks as the sixth best adjusted course fit, 26th in weighted strokes gained on approach, 15th on approach from 200+ yards, 25th in weighted around-the-green play, sixth in Poa putting, and third in bogey avoidance. At a mere $7,600 salary on DraftKings, Bezuidenhout projects as a safe option with top-20 upside at the Wells Fargo Championship.Source: PGA Tour
1 day agoFantasy managers will face a tough decision on rostering Denny McCarthy at the Wells Fargo Championship. Quail Hollow notoriously demands excellence off-the-tee and places a premium on driving distance, both categories which are major weaknesses in the 31-year-old pro's game. However, McCarthy notably ranks 20th in the field in strokes gained on long courses, and he surprised many with his T8 finish here last year. With a low greens-in-regulation percentage expected this week, McCarthy should be able to lean on his elite short game to generate scoring opportunities and avoid big numbers, but his upside in a field of this caliber remains a question mark. Fantasy managers choosing to invest in McCarthy and his $7,300 price tag may want to consider taking the route of limited exposure this week.Source: PGA Tour
1 day agoJ.T. Poston will surely be on the radar of many fantasy managers this week. The eighth-year pro and current OWGR No. 40 followed up his impressive T30 finish at the Masters with a T5 at the RBC Heritage, marking his seventh top-10 finish in the 2023-2024 PGA Tour season. Statistically, Poston does not appear to be a great course fit at Quail Hollow, as he rates outside of the top-50 in weighted strokes gained off-the-tee, driving distance, weighted approach play, and strokes gained on long and difficult courses over the last 24 rounds. He also missed the cut in two of his last three starts here, while adding a T26 result in the 2021 rendition. Poston's tidy short game should be a huge benefit this week with a low greens-in-regulation percentage expected, and the recent upside is certainly worthy of roster consideration this week at a flat $7,000 DraftKings salary.Source: PGA Tour
2 days agoAdam Schenk had an impressive performance at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson last week, finishing T13. This was his third top-15 finish in the previous four tournaments. He will play at the Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow this week, although his history at this event has been mixed. In 2023, he missed the cut, but in 2022, he finished tied for ninth. Schenk has been doing well with his long irons this year, particularly recently. During the last 12 months, he has ranked in the 64th percentile in proximity to the hole on approach shots from 150-200 yards in the fairway, which is worth noting, as over 44% of approach shots at last year's Wells Fargo Championship were from this distance. Although Schenk has been in good form lately, his past course history may make him a risky pick for DFS lineups.Source: Data Golf
2 days agoTaylor Pendrith emerged as the victor at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson held at TPC Craig Ranch last week, marking his first win on the PGA Tour in 2024. This was a significant win for Pendrith, considering his inconsistent performance throughout the 2024 season. He secured two top-10 finishes in his first three appearances of the year, followed by four consecutive missed cuts, and eventually two top-15 finishes and a win. Pendrith will be making his second appearance at the Wells Fargo Championship this year, having missed the cut last year. His recent strong iron play is expected to continue, as he has been in solid form. Notably, he ranks in the 76th percentile for proximity to the hole on approach shots from 150-200 yards in the fairway in the previous 12 months. This is essential since over 44% of approach shots were taken from this distance at last year's tournament. Although Pendrith has been performing well lately, his inconsistency makes him a risky inclusion for DFS lineups.Source: Data Golf
2 days agoAdam Scott had a disappointing T30 finish at last week's CJ Cup Byron Nelson, despite his solid performances at the Masters Tournament and the Valero Texas Open. Scott is set to play in this week's Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow with only one missed cut in 2024 and five top-25 finishes, including a top-10 at the Waste Management Phoenix Open in February. In 2023, he finished tied for fifth at the same event. However, Scott needs to improve his iron play to have a chance at competing this week. Over the past 12 months, he ranks in the 44th percentile in proximity to the hole on approach shots from 150-200 yards in the fairway, which is essential to note because, at last year's event, over 44% of approach shots came from this distance. Although Scott has been in solid form, he may be hard to trust in DFS lineups this week.Source: Data Golf
2 days agoTony Finau will play at the Wells Fargo Championship this week after finishing T12 at the RBC Heritage two weeks ago. He is having a strong 2024 season with only one missed cut and six top-25 finishes, including two top-10 and one top-five. In last year's Wells Fargo Championship, Finau finished T23, and he ranks in the 68th percentile in proximity to the hole on approach shots from 150-200 yards in the fairway over the previous 12 months. This is noteworthy because over 44% of approach shots at last year's tournament came from this distance. Considering his recent form and past success at Quail Hollow, Finau could be a valuable addition to DFS lineups.Source: Data Golf
2 days agoIf the game of golf was only from tee to green, Keegan Bradley would be a rockstar in 2024. He's gained over 11 shots on the field on approach over his last two starts and is currently 37th on the season in strokes gained on approach (0.407). The bad part is we have to keep counting once we've made it to the green, and so far, Bradley is bleeding strokes with the putter at a clip even his great ball striking can't keep up with. He lost over seven shots on the greens at TPC Sawgrass and nearly four shots on the greens a few weeks ago at Harbour Town. It's an annoying situation for us to watch, as it surely is for him to perform. Nevertheless, all it takes is a few solid rounds with the flat stick to put together a solid week; just not on a fantasy roster.Source: Data Golf
2 days agoIt has been a feast or famine year for Billy Horschel, with his recent victory at the Corales Puntacana Championship bookended by missed cuts. Many of his poor performances this season can be attributed to poor iron play, though he's still ranked in a respectable 70th spot in strokes gained on approach (0.145). His work with the putter has been the backbone of most rounds as he is ranked 14th in strokes gained putting (0.578). His misses--while they have been small--have been plentiful, but his ceiling is gaining over 16 strokes on the field as he did in his win. He's an interesting choice this week simply because it is a no-cut event and he leads the tour in final round scoring average, but having to count everything together makes him a scary play at $9,100 on FanDuel.Source: PGA Tour
2 days agoTaylor Moore appeared to be playing well. The American golfer barely finished inside the Top 60 at the RBC Heritage. That included a rough weekend culminating in a final round 74. After missing the cut at the Zurich Open, Moore may have an opportunity to rebound at the Wells Fargo Championship. The last time Moore put four rounds together was in Houston where he finished tied for second. He is 32nd when it comes to GIR (Greens In Regulation) at 68.99%. It is vital that Moore gets approaches on the green with regularity. If he putts reasonably well, the golfer could be a reasonable DFS play this weekend. Source: PGATour.com
