Nets Fire Jacque Vaughn
5 months agoThe Brooklyn Nets dismissed head coach Jacque Vaughn on Monday morning. Vaughn's tenure hit rock bottom courtesy of a 136-86 shellacking by the Boston Celtics last Wednesday to enter the All-Star break with a bitter defeat, and the team is on the outside looking in when it comes to a play-in berth at 21-33 in the Eastern Conference standings this season. Brooklyn is also just 8-23 since Dec. 14, with only the San Antonio Spurs tallying more losses over this stretch. Vaughn took over as the head coach for the relieved Steve Nash early in the 2022-23 campaign, amassing a 64-65 record during his past two years with the organization. It's unclear who is replacing Vaughn in the interim, and despite a promising core and plenty of draft capital, the underachieving Nets can't help but appear fairly directionless in the aftermath of the short-lived Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, and James Harden era.
