Jared Jones Fans Eight More In Quality Start
3 weeks agoPittsburgh Pirates starting pitcher Jared Jones logged a quality start on Thursday, taking the loss in the 5-1 defeat to the Philadelphia Phillies after giving up three runs on six hits and striking out eight over 6 1/3 innings. Jones put together another great performance overall, with an Alec Bohm solo home run in the fourth inning and a Brandon Marsh two-run homer serving as the brunt of the damage to his line. The hard-throwing 22-year-old right-hander is exhibiting plenty of strikeout upside for fantasy managers thus far, fanning 25 over the first 18 major-league innings of his career to go with a 4.00 ERA and an outstanding 0.94 WHIP. If he cuts down on the loud contact (four HRs through three starts), Jones could keep his rotation spot when the Bucs inevitably call up 2023 No. 1 overall pick Paul Skenes later this year. On Tuesday, he's slated to face a New York Mets offense that's suddenly awakening from their early-season swoon.
