2024 NFL Draft – Predicting First-Round Picks for the AFC West

Michael Penix Jr. - CFB DFS Picks, Daily College Fantasy Football, NFL Draft Rookies

The 2024 NFL Draft is nearly here. Fans only need to wait nine more days until the big event.

Everyone knows the Chicago Bears will take Caleb Williams with the first overall pick. While many expect the Washington Commanders and New England Patriots to draft a quarterback with the second and third pick, no one knows which two will get selected.

However, let’s look at what the AFC West teams could do in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft.

Be sure to check all of our fantasy football rankings for 2025:

Denver Broncos

The Broncos have a first-round pick for the first time in years. Unfortunately, they have a massive hole at the quarterback position. Jarrett Stidham and Ben DiNucci are the only two quarterbacks on the roster. Therefore, most mock drafts have Denver selecting a quarterback with its first-round pick. Oregon’s Bo Nix is a heavy betting favorite to land with the Broncos. Given Sean Payton’s success with Drew Brees, no one should be surprised he drafts Nix.

Kansas City Chiefs

Despite coming off back-to-back Super Bowl victories, the Chiefs have multiple holes on their roster heading into the NFL Draft. They traded away L’Jarius Sneed, creating a need at cornerback. While Kansas City could draft one in the first round, they likely wait until the middle rounds. Instead, expect them to take a wide receiver with their top pick. They signed Marquise Brown, but Rashee Rice’s off-the-field situation makes wide receiver a must-add position early in the draft.

Las Vegas Raiders

Las Vegas signed Gardner Minshew in free agency to compete with Aidan O'Connell. However, that won’t keep them from drafting a quarterback in the first round. Reportedly, the Raiders could take Michael Penix Jr. with the 13th overall pick. They could also pass on him at 13th overall and trade back into the late first for the Washington star. Expect Las Vegas to target an offensive lineman or cornerback with its first-round pick if it passes on a quarterback.

Los Angeles Chargers

New head coach Jim Harbaugh hates fantasy players with Justin Herbert on their roster. Despite losing Keenan Allen and Mike Williams this offseason, the Chargers could pass on a wide receiver with their first-round pick. Los Angeles is a popular trade- back candidate, with the Minnesota Vikings needing to move up for a quarterback. Whether the Chargers make their first pick at fifth or 11th overall, don’t be surprised if they take an offensive tackle over a wide receiver, given Harbaugh’s desire to run the ball.
