Patrick Corbin 2020 Outlook: A Solid Arm at a Solid Price
5 years agoPatrick Corbin had another stellar season in 2019, helping lead the Nationals to a World Series title. He finished the season throwing over two hundred innings for the third time in his career to the tune of a 3.25 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, and 238 strikeouts. He equaled his career-high in starts with 33, which is very encouraging considering he has had some injury history in his past. He also allowed a career-low xBA of .230 and put up his second-best K-rate by striking out 28.5% of hitters faced. He was able to do this by using his wipeout slider to the tune of a 52% whiff rate and also used it for 50.6% of his strikeout total. It was not all positive in 2019, however as Corbin set a career-high in walks with 70 and also gave up 24 home runs, which ranked 23rd in the NL and was nine more than he allowed in 2018. This being said, he was still within his career norms in every other stat category. In 2020, we should expect him to again push the 200 innings mark to go along with a solid ERA and WHIP as well as a K-rate near the 30% mark. He currently has an ADP close to 48 and is being taken as the 14th starting pitcher off the board between Luis Castillo and Aaron Nola. He should provide a solid return at this spot and be a reliable arm in your rotation.
