After the win, Lewis re-signed with the Las Vegas-based promotion and ended up agreeing to step up on about a month's notice to face Jailton Almeida in the main event of UFC Sao Paulo on Saturday. Almeida is a perfect 5-0 in the UFC and is coming off a first-round submission over Jairzinho Rozenstruik back in May. The two champions fought for a second time in Saturday's main event in Abu Dhabi, and once again it was Makhachev who emerged victorious. Makhachev unloaded a vicious head kick that knocked Volkanovski down before some ground-and-pound punches secured a devastating first-round knockout. 6 months agoAlexander Volkanovski was stepping in for Charles Oliveira on just two weeks' notice but wanted his second chance to take down Islam Makhachev and become UFC's newest double champion. Unfortunately for Volkanovski, Makhachev emerged victorious, successfully defending his lightweight title with a first-round knockout of Volkanovski. The Saturday night fight was a rematch from UFC 284 in February, when Makhachev won by unanimous decision. 6 months agoJohnny Walker was taking on Magomed Ankalaev at UFC 294 in Abu Dhabi, but the fight was bizarrely stopped on the doctor's orders after Ankalaev landed an illegal knee on Walker, who was still grounded. Requiring time to gather himself following the devastating illegal blow, Walker was subjected to a concussion test by the Octagon-side physician, who quickly determined that the Brazilian was unable to continue to fight. In 3:13 of action, Walker landed 14 significant strikes. It's unclear if a rematch will be ordered between Walker and Ankalaev given the controversial ending to their fight.Source: UFC
6 months agoIkram Aliskerov picked up his second UFC victory in a big way as he scored a first-round TKO of Warlley Alves at UFC 294. It didn't take Aliskerov long to establish his range and keep Alves on his toes. He dropped Alves with a jab, and when Alves got up, Aliskerov landed a stunning flying knee to drop Alves again. Aliskerov followed up with punches to finish the fight. In 2:07 of action, Aliskerov landed 26 significant strikes. 6 months agoWarlley Alves suffered a first-round TKO loss to Ikram Alsikerov at UFC 294 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Alves was stepping up to middleweight to fill in for Nassourdine Imavov who had some traveling issues ahead of this event. Aliskerov dropped Alves with a jab, then he landed a flying knee and finished Alves with a barrage of punches. In 2:07 of action, Alves landed 12 significant strikes. 6 months agoMuin Gafurov suffered a 73-second submission loss to Said Nurmagomedov at UFC 294 in Abu Dhabi. Gafurov had lost to John Castaneda by decision back in June and returned against Nurmagomedov. Gafurov tried to blitz Nurmagomedov early got caught in a choke and was forced to tap. Gafurov ended up landing just one strike in the defeat and dropped to 0-2 in the UFC. He's now 18-6 in MMA and whether or not he gets another fight in the promotion is uncertain.Source: UFC
6 months agoSaid Nurmagomedov returned to the win column at UFC 294 with a first-round submission over Muin Gafurov. Nurmagomedov suffered a decision loss to Jonathan Martinez back in March which snapped his four-fight win streak. In the opening moments of the fight, the two bantamweights had a feeling out process, but as Nurmagomedov's back was near the cage, Gafurov blitzed in with some strikes. As he got near Nurmagomedov, the Russian got ahold of a choke and submitted Gafurov in just 73 seconds. With the win, Nurmagomedov improved to 7-2 in the UFC.Source: UFC
6 months agoMagomed Ankalaev was fighting for the first time since last December when he fought Jan Blachowicz to a draw for the light heavyweight belt. In his return fight at UFC 294, Ankalaev took on Johnny Walker in a potential title eliminator fight. Ankalaev started out strong as he got a takedown and had over a minute of control. However, just over three minutes into the first round, Ankalaev threw an illegal knee to Walker's head and the fight was stopped. After the doctor didn't clear Walker, the fight was ruled a No Contest. It's likely the two will run it back in the very near future.Source: UFC
6 months agoKamaru Usman lost a majority decision to Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 294 in Abu Dhabi on Saturday. Usman took the fight on less than two weeks' notice and moved up to middleweight to face the undefeated fighter. After getting dominated in the first round, Usman outstruck Chimaev in the second and third rounds, but he was controlled on the ground for two minutes in the final round to lose the decision. It was his third straight defeat, and Usman is now 15-3 inside the Octagon.Source: UFC
6 months agoKhamzat Chimaev improved to 13-0 as a pro with a majority decision win over Kamaru Usman at UFC 294 on Saturday in Abu Dhabi. Chimaev was fighting for the first time in over a year, as he fought Usman who took this fight on less than two weeks' notice. In the first round, Chimaev got Usman down and had 4:35 of control as he landed some ground-and-pound shots in a one-sided round. The next two rounds were much closer as Chimaev started to fade, but he did enough to get the win. After the victory, Chimaev claimed he broke his hand in the first round.Source: UFC
