Max Scherzer Hit Hard For Five Runs In Loss
10 months agoNew York Mets starting pitcher Max Scherzer relinquished five runs on six hits and two walks with seven strikeouts in six innings for his fourth loss of the year on Saturday against the Boston Red Sox. The 38-year-old got hammered by the long ball in this one, surrendering four home runs before departing after the sixth frame. It marked the third time this season that Scherzer was tagged for at least three homers in a start and the sixth instance where he ceded multiple big flies. It's simply been an uneven campaign all around for the eight-time All-Star, who flopped in a big way on Saturday after a vintage display in his last showing versus the Los Angeles Dodgers. Scherzer takes a 4.20 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, and 114:28 K:BB over 100 2/3 innings pitched into a home date with the Washington Nationals set for Friday. The right-hander holds a 2.78 ERA with 22 punchouts in four starts against the Nats since 2022 (22 2/3 IP).
