Kevin Gausman Fires Six Strong Innings In Tough-Luck Loss
10 months agoToronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Kevin Gausman launched six innings of two-run ball with seven strikeouts in Saturday's 2-0 loss to the Detroit Tigers. The 32-year-old allowed only five hits and two walks, but was saddled with his fifth loss of the season. Gausman's team was on the wrong side of a no-hitter in this one, hence the unfortunate defeat to his ledger. The hard-tossing right-hander picked himself up following a two-run first frame, hurling five scoreless innings thereafter on 96 total pitches in the contest. The strikeout-throwing Gausman's first half closes with a resolute 3.03 ERA (MLB-best 2.46 FIP), 1.13 WHIP, and AL-high 153 punchouts across 115 2/3 innings overall. The 2023 All-Star has imploded a few times this year, but has compensated by posting an AL-best 14 quality starts, tied with fellow All-Star George Kirby. Gausman should take the hill again at some point next weekend versus the Arizona Diamondbacks.
