Taylor Ward Reclaims Leadoff Role On Sunday
12 months agoLos Angeles Angels outfielder Taylor Ward has returned to the leadoff spot in the batting order for Sunday's series finale versus the Rangers. A 1-for-14 skid between April 26 and April 29 saw Ward get dropped in the lineup occasionally to the sixth spot over his prior six contests. The 29-year-old has responded to the relegation, apparently making it very brief by hitting 7-for-20 (.350 average) with a home run and four RBI over his last week of play. The right-handed Ward goes against lefty Martin Perez on Sunday, but Ward has struggled to a .194 average in 31 at-bats against southpaws in 2023. Even so, the left fielder signifies an enticing fantasy play based on run-scoring upside any time he gets to function as the table-setter for superstars Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani.
