Robert Woods: 2018 Outlook: Ceiling Suppressed Due To Shared Targets
6 years agoWhile Woods has garnered sufficient trust from owners to register an eighth round ADP, it is advisable to avoid unrealistic expectations regarding his ceiling. Woods did establish a new career high in receiving yards last season (781) while tying his previous best with five touchdowns. However, that left him third among all Rams in both categories, which is also where he finished in targets (85) and receptions (56). Those numbers placed him at WR32, and it is unlikely that he will reside any higher in scoring this season. Woods will be contending for targets with Cooper Kupp (95 targets/62 receptions/869 yards/5 touchdowns) and new teammate Brandin Cooks (114 targets/65 receptions/1,082 yards/7 touchdowns), who will attempt to register his fourth consecutive 1,000-yard season. This does not even incorporate the massive workload of Gurley into the equation, as Goff also targeted the elite back 87 times. Gurley amassed impressive receiving numbers (64 receptions/788 yards/6 touchdowns) and will capture a sizable number of opportunities after accruing 343 touches in 15 contests. Anyone who is considering Woods before his aforementioned ADP should also remember that the Rams are hardly pass happy under Sean McVay, ranking 24th in passing play percentage last season. Woods is a viable selection in Round 8, but will not exceed last season’s numbers.
