Pete Crow-Armstrong 2024 Player Outlook: Don't Jump The Gun On Prospect Status
11 months agoChicago Cubs outfield prospect Pete Crow-Armstrong, MLB Pipeline's No. 16 overall prospect, made it to the big leagues at just 21 years of age in the 2023 season. However, he went hitless in 19 trips to the plate, striking out in 36.8% of them. After putting the boots to Double-A pitching, Armstrong took a significant step back upon a promotion to Triple-A a season ago, hitting .271 with six home runs, 10 stolen bases, and an elevated 29.7% K% across 158 plate appearances, production that helped lead to a 106 wRC+ which is a mere 6% superior to the Triple-A average. He has displayed a quality combination of power and speed in his minor-league tenure but also well-above-average strikeout rates, not a huge surprise given his age. ATC is projecting just 348 MLB plate appearances for Crow-Armstrong in 2024 and just nine HR in that time. He is a fine dynasty league asset with plenty of room for growth but Crow-Armstrong is best left alone in redraft leagues this spring.
