Pete Alonso Heating Up, Bashes Two Homers In Win
9 months agoNew York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso went 2-for-4 with two home runs and five RBI in Friday's 5-1 win over the Washington Nationals. The 28-year-old shouldered the offensive load in this one, accounting for all of New York's scoring. Alonso began the contest 0-for-2 before his towering fifth-inning three-run blast would get the Mets on the board. The slugger then cracked another two-run big fly in the seventh frame to notch his second two-homer, five-RBI effort of the week after doing so also on Tuesday. Alonso had been scuffling at the plate in a big way since returning from the injured list with a left wrist sprain on June 18, but he's finally starting to pick it up. Over Alonso's last seven outings, the three-time All-Star is hitting .423 (11-for-26) with four round-trippers and 10 RBI.
