5 days agoMinnesota Twins starting pitcher Chris Paddack had a strong start on Sunday, tossing eight innings of two-run ball in a 5-2 loss to the Cleveland Guardians. Paddack allowed just three hits while showing excellent command, walking none and striking out six. The only damage done to Paddack was a two-run blast off the bat of Andres Gimenez in the first inning. It was a very good sign to see the 28-year-old bounce back from a tough outing against the Yankees last time out, and fantasy managers who held onto Paddack should feel better about his outlook. That said, the righty is still a fringey option in standard leagues and should be left for streaming for now until he can show more consistency. He is a good deep league option, though.--Matt Garon - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com

5 days agoSan Diego Padres starting pitcher Yu Darvish was nearly unhittable on Sunday, throwing seven shutout innings of two-hit ball in a 9-1 win over the Atlanta Braves. This marks back-to-back Sunday Night Baseball victories for Darvish, who posted an eerily similar line last week against the Dodgers. In both outings he went seven innings and allowed zero runs, two hits, and a walk. The only difference is that he managed two more strikeouts in this one, totaling nine compared to seven last week. The dominant performance lowered his ERA to 2.08 and his WHIP to 0.90. He should be an easy start in all fantasy leagues after stellar outings against two of the best offenses in baseball and his streak of not allowing an earned run reaching 26 IP.--Matt Garon - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com
Share:
5 days agoPhiladelphia Phillies third baseman Alec Bohm came through in the clutch in Sunday's 11-5 win over the Washington Nationals, going 1-for-3 with a homer and five RBI. Bohm had two sacrifice flies early in the game and then took Tanner Rainey deep for a three-run blast in the eighth inning that put the game out of reach. The 27-year-old has slowed down in May, hitting .265 with one homer and one steal through 16 games, but his overall numbers still look good thanks to a tremendous April. It was good to see Bohm hit one out today, but fantasy managers shouldn't expect too much power from his contact-oriented approach. He will still be helpful in fantasy and contribute in AVG, runs, and RBI as part of a stacked Phillies lineup.--Matt Garon - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com
Share:
5 days agoHouston Astros outfielder Kyle Tucker went 2-for-5 with a pair of home runs in a 9-4 win over the Milwaukee Brewers on Sunday. Tucker continued his excellent season with his 14th and 15th big flies of the season and tacked on two runs and four RBI for good measure. Tucker has been a five-category beast in 2024, hitting .287 with 33 runs, 15 homers, 33 RBI, and seven stolen bases. The 27-year-old has certainly lived up to his first-round pedigree for fantasy managers and should continue to be an elite option as long as he remains healthy.--Matt Garon - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com
Share:
5 days agoNew York Mets reliever Reed Garrett closed out the Miami Marlins on Sunday, pitching the final two frames of a 7-3 victory. Garrett came in with a one-run lead, but the Mets scored three in the top of the ninth to give him a bigger cushion. The breakout reliever allowed just one hit while striking out four for his second save of the season. With Edwin Diaz being temporarily removed from the closer's role, Garrett should see a big uptick in save opportunities and should become the team's highest-leverage reliever. While that doesn't necessarily mean he will be the outright closer, he should still be added in most fantasy leagues at this time.--Matt Garon - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com
Share:
5 days agoBaltimore Orioles starting pitcher Corbin Burnes looked unhittable during Sunday's game against the Seattle Mariners. The right-hander struck out 11 batters while allowing only one run over six innings of work. Burnes matched his season-high for strikeouts, he also struck out 11 batters on Opening Day. He holds a solid 2.56 ERA so far and earned his first win since late April on Sunday.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com
Share:
5 days agoBaltimore Orioles relief pitcher Craig Kimbrel was asked with holding a three-run lead during Sunday's game against the Seattle Mariners. The veteran right-hander was removed from the closer role in early May. Hopefully for fantasy managers, Kimbrel is now getting eased back into the role. He was given a three-run lead and the bottom of the Mariners batting order on Sunday. He struck out two batters in a scoreless inning of work. It remains to be seen if Kimbrel has earned his closer role back.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com
Share:
5 days agoToronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Alek Manoah was outstanding during Sunday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays. The right-hander struck over seven batters, allowing just one hit over seven scoreless innings of work. Fantasy managers should be well aware of Manoah's up-and-down career in the MLB. This was a strong outing but fantasy managers shouldn't jump onto the bandwagon yet.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com
Share:
5 days agoBoston Red Sox third baseman Rafael Devers was able to keep his hitting streak alive during Sunday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals. The superstar corner infielder went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in the win. Devers has now homered in an incredible five straight contests. He now has a nine-game hitting streak with 11 hits during that span. Fantasy managers should make sure to keep Devers in their lineup going forward.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com
Share:
5 days agoCleveland Guardians starting pitcher Tanner Bibee had a stellar performance against the Minnesota Twins on Sunday. The right-hander struck out eight batters, allowing four hits, and one earned run over seven innings of work. Bibee was stuck with the no-decision, but fantasy managers will take the strong outing from him. This is now back-to-back strong outings for Bibee, so hopefully he's on the right track now.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com
Share:
5 days agoChicago Cubs infielder Luis Vazquez has reportedly been called up from Triple-A Iowa on Sunday. The assumption is that infielder Nico Hoerner (hamstring) is headed to the injured list with Vazquez joining the roster. The 22-year-old was slashing .270/.369/.409 with three home runs and 11 RBI in Triple-A this season. The Cubs haven't announced who is going down to the minors as a corresponding roster move. The expectation is that Vazquez should get significant playing time until the Cubs middle infield gets healthy again.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: Jorge Castillo
Share:
6 days agoHouston Astros first baseman Jose Abreu could return to the majors on Friday, according to general manager Dana Brown. Abreu will play in a few more minor-league games before the team makes their decision. The veteran slugger was sent down to the Florida Complex League after a horrific start to the season that saw him carrying a .099/.156/.113 slash line. Jon Singleton has seen most of the playing time at first base while Abreu has been away. Singleton could continue to see action even when Abreu comes back as there is no guarantee that Abreu will return to an everyday role.--Raymond Harrison - RotoBallerSource: Chandler Rome
Share:
6 days agoNew York Yankees reliever Tommy Kahnle (shoulder) could return to the majors on Wednesday, according to manager Aaron Boone. Kahnle made multiple relief appearances with Double-A Somerset over the weekend and did not allow a run in any outing. The 34-year-old has been sidelined since last season with shoulder inflammation, but he is finally nearing a return. Kahnle has been an effective bullpen piece throughout his career as evidenced by his 2.66 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 48:19 K:BB across 42 games last season. He is a decent option for managers in leagues that track holds as a scoring category.--Raymond Harrison - RotoBallerSource: Bryan Hoch
Share:
6 days agoAtlanta Braves catcher Travis d'Arnaud (head) is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the San Diego Padres. The veteran backstop left Friday's game after taking a foul ball off of his mask. He reportedly felt dizzy after the incident, but he was not diagnosed with a concussion and is considered day-to-day. Chadwick Tromp will start behind the plate and bat ninth while d'Arnaud recovers. Tromp has minimal fantasy appeal, especially with Sean Murphy (oblique) inching closer to a return.--Raymond Harrison - RotoBallerSource: Justin Toscano
Share:
6 days agoAtlanta Braves third baseman Austin Riley (side) is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the San Diego Padres. It will be the sixth straight game that Riley has missed due to side inflammation. Riley has managed to avoid the injured list and is still considered day-to-day, but it is slightly concerning that he continues to miss time. In his absence, Zack Short will at third base and bat seventh against Padres starter Yu Darvish. Short is a fantasy afterthought at this point as he is slashing a paltry .172/.333/.241 through 29 at-bats in 2024.--Raymond Harrison - RotoBallerSource: Justin Toscano
