Luis Castillo 2024 Player Outlook: Higher-End Starter Amid Murky Options
12 months agoSeattle Mariners starting pitcher Luis Castillo enjoyed another successful season in 2023. The 31-year-old compiled a 14-9 record with a 3.34 ERA, 1.10 WHIP, and 27.3% strikeout rate in 33 starts and 197 innings pitched. His peripherals mostly mirrored his 2022 season, but he was able to reach a career-high in IP. Castillo did give up a career-high average exit velocity and hard-hit rate, but his ERA estimators were still solid with a 3.79 xERA and a 3.74 SIERA. He is currently being drafted as the 31st player overall, making him the sixth pitcher drafted. Castillo's jump in ADP from previous seasons can likely be attributed to the lack of a clear top-tier set of starting pitchers. While he has often been thought of as a number two or three fantasy starter, his consistent production and the ability to eat innings make him a worthy ace-level option this season.
