Jordan Romano 2024 Fantasy Baseball Outlook: Remains Safe Bet For High Number Of Saves
11 months agoToronto Blue Jays reliever Jordan Romano finished 2023 with the same number of saves he totaled the previous season, 36, but saw a drop in pitching ratios. He posted a 2.90 ERA compared to 2.11 in 2022 and a 1.22 WHIP compared to 1.05 the previous season. Romano was dominant before the All-Star Break, where he tallied 26 of his 36 saves with a 1.12 WHIP, but in the second half, he saw a significant dip that tarnished his statistics. The 30-year-old dealt with lower back inflammation mid-season, which could explain the dip in his second-half numbers. Another concern was his below-average 9.7 walk%, putting him in unfavorable situations. Despite this, the Blue Jays closer continued to rack up strikeouts at a high-level thanks to his 35.9 Whiff% and 33.2 Chase%, placing him in the 96th and 90th percentiles, respectively. The right-handed pitcher was battling elbow inflammation during Spring Training and was placed on the injured list to open the campaign. Despite the injury scare, Romano remains an elite option for saves and should only be sidelined for a short period of time as there was no structural damage in his elbow.
