Jordan Hicks Slams Door On Mets For First Save
11 months agoSt. Louis Cardinals right-handed pitcher Jordan Hicks struck out a trio of batters for a hitless ninth inning to safeguard a 5-3 win over the New York Mets on Saturday. The 26-year-old obtained his first save of the year. Presumed interim closer Giovanny Gallegos got the eighth inning in this one. Hicks seems to be in the mix for closing duties and is worth a look in deep fantasy leagues with Ryan Helsley (forearm) sidelined and Gallegos having blown his most recent save chance on June 14. The flame-throwing righty has fanned 48 with a 4.30 ERA and 1.53 WHIP over 29 1/3 innings this season. Hicks is up in the top-five percent of baseball in average exit velocity against in 2023, but walks (6.4 BB/9) have plagued him.
