Joe Musgrove Still Not Advancing To Mound Work
8 months agoSan Diego Padres starting pitcher Joe Musgrove (shoulder) has been playing catch for the last couple of weeks, but is "running out of time" for a 2023 return. The 30-year-old "wants to pitch", but is yet to resume throwing on the mound, and an official decision on San Diego's plan for him the rest of the way is due to arrive soon. San Diego's shutting down of Yu Darvish (elbow) earlier this week could be a harbinger for things to come regarding the status of Musgrove, who's recovering from right shoulder capsule inflammation. Fantasy managers should probably brace for a similar fate with the Padres not making real inroads in the National League Wild Card race at this point. The right-hander had returned high-end value when healthy, putting up a 3.05 ERA and 1.14 WHIP with 97 strikeouts and 10 wins over 97 1/3 innings this year.
