Joe Musgrove Reportedly Won't Pitch Again In 2023
3 weeks agoThe San Diego Padres are effectively shutting down starting pitcher Joe Musgrove (shoulder) for the rest of the season by slowing down his throwing progression. The lack of progression in the 30-year-old's throwing program already served as the writing on the wall for this development, which comes as more of a formality than anything else. Musgrove fortunately hasn't experienced any setbacks with his right shoulder, but the Padres have understandably elected to err on the side of the caution considering their placement in the standings. The right-hander's year appears to have reached a close with a 3.05 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 97:21 K:BB covering 97 1/3 innings. With Blake Snell due for free agency this winter, Musgrove will remain a key cog in San Diego's rotation in 2024 after inking a five-year extension in August of 2022.
