Jeff McNeil Closes Year On Injured List
2 months agoThe New York Mets put infielder/outfielder Jeff McNeil (elbow), who is out of Thursday's lineup versus the Miami Marlins, on the 10-day injured list due to a left elbow sprain. After winning the National League batting title a year ago, the 31-year-old turned in quite a disappointing follow-up season overall. McNeil looked like his 2022 self from Aug. 5 on, however, hitting .311 with an .842 OPS, seven home runs, nine doubles, and 21 RBI in 190 at-bats, but it was too little too late for New York's lost campaign. The two-time All-Star hopes his second-half success carries into 2024 as one of New York's primary table-setters. Rookie Ronny Mauricio should have second base all to himself in the final four games of 2023 while Rafael Ortega and Tim Locastro fill the gap in left field.
