Gleyber Torres 2024 Player Outlook: Looking To Build On Five-Category Production
11 months agoNew York Yankees second baseman Gleyber Torres put forth another solid overall season in 2023, slashing .273/.347/.453 with 25 home runs, 90 runs scored, 68 RBI, and 13 stolen bases in 672 plate appearances. The 27-year-old replicated the power output he showed in 2022 as well as earlier in his career and saw his batting average jump back towards his career mark of .267. Even more encouraging, his walk rate from 2022 to 2023 rose from 6.8% to 10%, while he posted a career-low strikeout rate of 14.6%. Torres has shown fluctuations in both batting average and power throughout his career, but he has shown that he can be a five-category contributor in a strong Yankees lineup when everything is clicking. Torres is currently being drafted at about pick 93 overall, making him the eighth 2B off the board. Torres represents the end of a tier at his position and offers the most wide-spanning contributions compared to other hitters being drafted around him. As such, his current ADP seems like a reasonable value.
