Gerrit Cole Fans 10 Batters In No-Decision
9 months agoNew York Yankees starting pitcher Gerrit Cole let in two runs on five hits and one walk with 10 strikeouts over 6 1/3 innings for a no-decision on Saturday versus the Kansas City Royals. The 32-year-old tossed two spotless frames before Nick Pratto took him yard for a Yankee Stadium short porch special, but the right-hander admittedly hung a curveball. After Cole fired a clean fourth inning, KC would add another run in the fifth, but he was able to get four more outs before his strong day concluded at 99 pitches. The six-time All-Star logged an AL-high 15th quality start of the year, toting a 2.78 ERA, 1.08 WHIP, and 144:36 K:BB in 129 1/3 innings pitched overall. Cole should take the ball at some point next weekend vs. the Baltimore Orioles, who he owns a 5.19 ERA with 24 punchouts in four starts against since 2022 (26 IP).
