Gerrit Cole Caps Off Strong First Half With Win
10 months agoNew York Yankees starting pitcher Gerrit Cole threw 7 1/3 innings in Saturday's 6-3 victory over the Chicago Cubs. The 32-year-old relinquished three runs on five hits and one walk with five strikeouts for his ninth win of the year. After the Cubs manufactured a run in the third frame, they stuck around just long enough to chase Cole in this one. Former Yankees teammate Mike Tauchman took him deep during the eighth to rudely end an otherwise solid showing from Cole. The 2023 All-Star's first half concludes with a steady 2.85 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, and 123:34 K:BB across 117 innings. Cole endured a rough May, but the fantasy stalwart has logged 13 quality starts this season. The hard-throwing right-hander figures to toe the rubber promptly after the break, lining up at Coors Field against the Colorado Rockies for a tough draw at some point next weekend.
