DJ Stewart Goes Yard In Return To Play In Loss
8 months agoNew York Mets outfielder DJ Stewart (back), who was back in Saturday's lineup in right field, went 1-for-4 with a home run in the 8-4 loss to the Minnesota Twins. The 29-year-old returned following a three-game bout with lower-back tightness, and he made no mistake on a Louie Varland fastball down the heart of the plate for an eighth-inning solo homer. Stewart has filled in admirably for the injured Starling Marte (groin), slashing a robust .265/.345/.637 with 11 blasts, 22 RBI, and 14 runs scored during 118 plate appearances. The former first-round pick's hot streak is worth riding in deeper-mixed/NL-only formats while it lasts, and Stewart could be working his way onto New York's Opening Day roster in 2024 if he maintains some degree of this surprising string of success.
