Daulton Varsho's Three RBI Not Enough In Key Loss
7 months agoToronto Blue Jays catcher/outfielder Daulton Varsho went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI in Saturday's 7-5 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays. While it's damaging loss for Toronto's wild card hopes, Varsho did his part with the bat. He smacked a third-inning solo jack to get his club on the board before plating two more runs on a go-ahead single during the fourth frame. Varsho is carrying a hot stick lately, hitting .262 with four homers, two triples, and nine RBI in 42 at-bats since Sep. 15. The hybrid backstop's first year with the Jays following an offseason trade was fairly ordinary, slashing .220/.286/.391 with 20 big flies, 68 RBI, and 16 stolen bases over 522 at-bats ahead of free agency. Varsho ranks outside the top 10 catchers in 2023, but he'll remain fantasy relevant if he retains that eligibility next year.
