Corbin Burnes Notches Yet Another Quality Start On Monday
9 months agoMilwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Corbin Burnes tossed six two-run innings with five strikeouts on Monday against the Washington Nationals. The 28-year-old permitted four hits and three walks on the way to a no-decision. Burnes induced three groundouts to start the outing before Joey Meneses took him deep to begin the second frame. The right-hander would settle down and manage a bit of traffic on the bases, but Lane Thomas delivered a fifth-inning RBI single to inflict some more damage. Burnes would retire the sixth-inning side in order to complete yet another successful showing; he logged his sixth straight quality start for a 1.85 ERA over the stretch to wrap up July. Fantasy's consensus top pitcher from this past spring's drafts endured an uncharacteristically-shaky start to get back on track for an NL-leading 1.05 WHIP and 6.3 H/9 in 133.1 frames overall this season. Burnes lines up for Saturday's favorable draw versus the Pittsburgh Pirates.
