Corbin Burnes Flirts With Perfection In Vintage Display
10 months agoMilwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Corbin Burnes fired seven innings of two-run ball on just one hit and two walks with seven strikeouts during Saturday's 11-8 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates. With Milwaukee up 10-0, the 28-year-old was cruising along as he took a perfect-game bid into the sixth inning before giving up consecutive walks, a hit-by-pitch, and a two-run single to diminish what was an otherwise masterful showing. Burnes proceeded to throw a clean seventh frame to wrap up his day. It was a much-needed jolt for the former Cy Young award winner, who still carries an unexpected 4.00 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, and 96:35 K:BB across 101 1/3 innings this season. Burnes is next penciled in to battle the emergent Cincinnati Reds lineup on Friday.
