Casey Mize Set To Face Live Hitters On Saturday
8 months agoDetroit Tigers starting pitcher Casey Mize (elbow) is scheduled to face live hitters on Saturday for the first time since undergoing Tommy John surgery on June 15, 2022. The 26-year-old will toss about one inning of work during the session. Mize, who also had back surgery in '22, will take the next step in his throwing program, which could lead to "a rehab assignment here in the not-too-distant future", per manager A.J. Hinch. With less than a quarter of play to go, however, the right-handed Mize is certainly up against it to build himself back up for a meaningful 2023 return. Fantasy managers should not expect the former No. 1 overall pick to offer fantasy usability this season, but the progress is promising.
