Carlos Estevez 2024 Player Outlook: Lack Of Job Security A Major Red Flag
10 months agoLos Angeles Angels reliever Carlos Estevez served as the club's closer in 2023, collecting 31 saves along with a 3.90 ERA in 63 appearances. However, he also struggled to a 6.59 ERA across 27 1/3 innings in the season's second half. New Angels manager Ron Washington recently confirmed Estevez as the team's closer to begin the season but it's difficult to imagine a long leash. It's also difficult to ignore the additions of Matt Moore, Luis Garcia, Adam Cimber, and especially Robert Stephenson to the Angels' new-look relief corps. Stephenson may not be ready to open the season with a shoulder injury but he was one of the game's elite relievers in the second half of last season, with an MLB-best 42.9% K-BB%, at the same time Estevez was one of the worst. If that trend continues, Estevez's 251.19 ADP could be disastrous. It's not an unfair ADP but his short leash is not worth an investment on draft day.
