Alex Verdugo Cracks Another Leadoff Homer Saturday
8 months agoBoston Red Sox right fielder Alex Verdugo went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Saturday's 8-5 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers. With the 27-year-old's leadoff blast off Julio Urias, Verdugo achieved his first career three-game homer streak and became the first player in Red Sox franchise history to hit a leadoff HR in the first inning of three straight games. Since 1900, Brady Anderson holds the MLB record by belting four straight leadoff homers, so Verdugo will have a shot to tie that one during his first at-bat Sunday. It's been an up-and-down campaign for Verdugo, but the recent power surge has the left-handed batter up to a .281 BA with a .797 OPS, 12 long balls, 51 RBI, and 73 runs scored over 455 ABs.
