Taylor Ward Reclaims Leadoff Role On Sunday
1 year agoLos Angeles Angels outfielder Taylor Ward has returned to the leadoff spot in the batting order for Sunday's series finale versus the Rangers. A 1-for-14 skid between April 26 and April 29 saw Ward get dropped in the lineup occasionally to the sixth spot over his prior six contests. The 29-year-old has responded to the relegation, apparently making it very brief by hitting 7-for-20 (.350 average) with a home run and four RBI over his last week of play. The right-handed Ward goes against lefty Martin Perez on Sunday, but Ward has struggled to a .194 average in 31 at-bats against southpaws in 2023. Even so, the left fielder signifies an enticing fantasy play based on run-scoring upside any time he gets to function as the table-setter for superstars Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani.
