Cordarrelle Patterson 2021 Outlook: Versatile Weapon Without A Concrete Role
3 years agoAtlanta Falcons running back Cordarrelle Patterson, a four-time Pro Bowler and first-team All-Pro on special teams, entered the NFL back in 2013 as a first-round selection by the Minnesota Vikings. While he's still an excellent kick returner, Patterson's role on offense has shifted from being a receiver to a running back. In his second and final season with the Chicago Bears in 2020, he carried the ball a career-high 64 times for 232 yards and one touchdown, while catching 21 of 25 targets for 132 yards through the air. Mike Davis is expected to be Atlanta's primary back, and Patterson will need to beat out Qadree Ollison, who stood out in minicamp, for the No. 2 job. The 30-year-old provides plenty of versatility and depth, and the Falcons are expected to use Patterson as a bit of a jack-of-all-trades offensive weapon. Patterson will be primarily used as a running back, but he's only worth drafting in deeper leagues as a handcuff to Davis. He'll become more attractive if he qualifies as both an RB and a WR in your league settings.
