Tylor Megill Ends Year Strong In Ninth Win
8 months agoNew York Mets right-hander Tylor Megill fired 7 1/3 innings of one-run ball on four hits and two walks with seven strikeouts for his ninth win of the year in the matinee of Saturday's doubleheader versus the Philadelphia Phillies. Megill cruised through seven scoreless innings before permitting a few singles to the bottom of the order ahead of Philadelphia's lineup turning over in the eighth frame, causing his removal at 101 pitches. The 28-year-old was provided an early four-run lead, and it was just enough, as closer Adam Ottavino allowed things to get interesting in the ninth. Megill turned in a respectable final month of play with a 2.55 ERA in 35 1/3 innings (six starts). The right-hander has served as more of an innings eater for the Mets in recent years, but he could be part of a rebuilding 2024 rotation after they moved Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander at the trade deadline.
