Matt Ryan 2020 Outlook: Dependable Starter Leading Pass-Heavy Offense
4 years agoAtlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan was his usual, dependable self last season, despite missing a game for the first time since his sophomore-campaign back in 2009. Ryan may have "only" played 15 games, but he still ranked fifth in the NFL with 4,466 passing yards while averaging 297.7 yards per game. His 26 touchdowns did regress from the 35 he threw in 2018, but Ryan was still one of the most bankable quarterbacks in fantasy. Heading into 2020 Ryan may not be the flashiest option at a deep position, but should still put up big numbers in a Falcons offense that loves to throw the ball. Atlanta led the NFL in pass attempts last season and was fifth in 2018. The Falcons did sign running back Todd Gurley, but Ryan should still throw the ball a ton as he has 600+ pass attempts in six of the last eight seasons. Adding a threat in the run game will help Ryan as he was sacked a league-leading 48 times last season and threw 14 interceptions, his highest total since 2013. Ryan may not be the flashiest pick on draft day, but he still has arguably the best pair of receivers in the NFL on a pass-happy offense. He is currently the eighth passer off the board and is among the most reliable QBs in fantasy.
