Matt Brash Plays Catch Again Sunday
2 months agoSeattle Mariners relief pitcher Matt Brash (elbow) played catch out to 90 feet on Sunday. After throwing and playing catch last Tuesday, Brash continues to progress as he works his way back from inflammation in his right elbow. Following Paul Sewald's exit at 2023's trade deadline, the 25-year-old flamethrowing right-hander is in the mix for saves as a late-inning option out of the Mariners bullpen behind presumed closer Andres Munoz but is working against the clock to be ready March 28's Opening Day matchup versus the Boston Red Sox. Considering Brash hasn't appeared in spring training, fantasy managers should expect him to start the year on the injured list. After the club's No. 6 prospect from 2022, per MLB Pipeline, showed plenty of promise with a 3.06 ERA, 1.33 WHIP, and 107:29 K:BB in an MLB-high 78 appearances last season, Brash is still worth stashing in deeper mixed leagues while recovering.
