Kawhi Leonard 2019 Player Outlook
5 years agoJust months removed from his monumental decision to head to Los Angeles, Kawhi Leonard will soon get back to the business of playing basketball. It was only a year ago that Leonard was one of the biggest question marks heading into drafts due to the ambiguity surrounding his exit from San Antonio. Now, he remains a question mark again, but this time for different reasons. Leonard proved himself one of the game’s elite – if not the premier – two-way players en route to claiming an NBA Championship last year. During the regular season, he set new career highs in scoring (26.6 points per game) and rebounding (7.3 per game), all while appearing in just 60 contests as a means of load management. Leonard is entering his ninth NBA campaign, and has appeared in more than 70 regular-season games in a single season just twice. The talent is undoubtedly there for Leonard, but how head coach Doc Rivers organizes the offense alongside MVP candidate Paul George and scoring machine Lou Williams remains to be seen. There also exists the possibility of even more regular-season rest, which could cut into his aggregate statistics. Leonard figures to put together a dominant season in 2019-20, but whether he will produce enough value to warrant a first-round pick remains murky.
