Josh Jung Targeting Return Next Weekend
8 months agoTexas Rangers manager Bruce Bochy says third baseman Josh Jung (thumb) could be reinstated from the injured list as soon as Friday's series opener against the Cleveland Guardians next weekend. That would be a bit earlier than the six-week timetable the 25-year-old was given when he had surgery for a left thumb fracture on Aug. 9, which could be a pleasant surprise for the slumping Rangers and fantasy managers alike. Jung may need a brief rehab assignment early next week to meet these expectations, but it appears to be time to stash Jung wherever he remains available. The rookie ranks as a top-10 option at third base in roto value, hitting .274 with an .813 OPS, 22 homers, 24 doubles, 67 RBI, and 70 runs scored during 427 at-bats before the setback. Struggling super-utility man Ezequiel Duran has mostly filled in at the hot corner while Jung has been recovering.
